DAB Tuner in an A8 D3?

I've managed to get a Audi DAB tuner for the A8 (and A6 I think) and would like to fit it to my D3 A8. I did have a problem with the part at first (I was sent the wrong one) but I'm due to get 4E0 035 563 shortly. This is manufactured by Kenwood for Audi and I have seen one in an A8 already - and it works very well indeed. Anyway, my dealer says they wouldn't want to fit it and even go as far as to say that the car would require a whole new wiring loom for it to be fitted. Does anyone know if this is truly the case? They did stress that they didn't want the product liability - so are they just being over cautious and scaring me off? I know that people have retro-fitted the Audi TV and DVB-T tuners, so why would DAB be different?

Alternativley, does anyone know of another main dealer or, in-car entertainment specialist that would be able to fit it or help? I'd be very interested in knowing! I have pictures of one factory fitted to a loan car (attached) I had a few weeks ago and of course of mine without it fitted (not attached). Any help or suggestions greatfully recieved!

I'm just about to fit the DAB tuner into mine,

What cables do you have?

What did you pay for the DAB module?

I have cable sets ready for power and MOST, I just dont have the antenna lead yet. It is on back order.

Also is your antenna system DAB compatible?

I don't have the cables yet, I need to order them. Did you order your cables from a dealer? Do you have any part numbers and price details etc?

I was going to order this from Ebay:

I got my tuner for €70.

If your car is the one shown in your picture, you might be luckier than I am, in that I don't know if my antenna is comaptible or not. How did you verify yours? (I guess yours isn't compatible & you're consequently ordering one - am I right?)

The chap in Germany who's sending me my tuner, (which hasn't arrived yet) may be able to supply you with another if you're interested. Let's See what my one is like (he wrongly sent me an A8 Satellite tuner 1st, so he's repalcing it for the Audi / Kenwood 4E0 035 563 DAB).

If you have any information we could share I'd be really pleased, this is fairly unusual and dealers I've spoken to are too scared to get involved.

Are you actually using a main dealer to install? If you PM me with your email address, I have an A8 document you might find interesting.

Cheers,

Tristian

I have some of those CD changer sets of cables, they are very useful for adding options to A6/A8's but you don't get a FO cable joint, just in case your cables are too short.

I also ordered a cable set from Kufatec as you get a FO joining block, 2 FO cables and an adaptor to pick up power from your existing options.

I will be doing the install myself as I'm pretty good at doing these things. I have installed about 10 options into A6 and A8's.

As for the cost, I paid 400 euros for the DAB module, although I haven't got it yet, it's about to be shipped from germany. I would be interested in another module at that price you quoted.

What you will be missing is the antenna cable, I have one on order form the dealers and I'm going to fix that directly to my antenna array as it has a DAB output, but no Fakra connector, I think I will solder it straight on to the antenna array.

With the help of TJ2K and myself, yesterday we managed to install the DAB tuner and receive stations. Hardest part was plumbing the antenna wire to the back of the car in the high 30 deg C temperatures and suffering from hayfever at the same time.

Will take some pics of the install soon and report back on functionality.
