Fitting VW MFD in MK4 Golf R32

Recommended Posts

I'm toying with the idea of getting hold of a second hand MFD off ebay and fitting it in my R32 but am having trouble getting definitive answers as to how easy this is to do and what i need to do. I have asked over on vwnavi.com but i've had conflicting answers and I don't think anyone that's replied has actually done this with the same car / stereo etc as me. I've got currently the double din head unit with the single slot in cd player (not sure of the proper name for this) and then the cd changer in the boot. has anyone on here added the vw navi system to their R32 afterwards and if so could you tell me for definite what i need to do ?

i.e what version mfd should i use (d or g) and what cabling / harnesses / adapters I need plus any other issues that I may encounter.

I have done just this install - the DD stereo relies on CanBus so it isn't quite plug & play - you either need to buy a Canbus adapter (I think this one would work but have never tried it http://www.bluespot.co.uk/install/show_model.asp?id=294) or you will need a conventional adapter & have to pick up 3 wires, + have to make a convertor for you CDC so although the Canbus kit looks expensive if I were doing it again I would go that way.

There is lots of good info on www.vwnavi.com - if you decide to go ahead & want a chat let me know
