bpsmith
I seem to be having vibrations through my brake pedal on my A3 1.8T Sport. It happens when I slow to tick over revs and the rev counter hangs at about 1200 revs and then when it drops to 1000 revs the vibration disappears. It has been happening more often over time also. Any ideas? Is there a possibility that this is linked to the MAF sensor? Other posts seem to point at this but I am unsure. If so, can someone post info on how to find the MAF sensor and how to clean it, etc? Any help appreciated as really p***ing me off!!!
CaTFiSH
Could be an ABS malfunction? when making sudden brakes while going fast it vibrates
bpsmith
How can I check this before going back to the dealer, as I have had a number of problems with this car, all of which were quite minor, but have been there so many times it is getting embarrassing. I want to be able to go there and tell them where the fault is rather than relying on their opinion as they tend to palm things off as being right a lot of the time!?! bpsmith
I have yet to get the time to go and speak to Audi regarding this problem and the other problem I posted about but have been thinking a bit more about it in the mean time. What are the characteristics of a failing Diverter Valve? The problem I am getting is a vibration through the car when coming to almost standstill that matches the rev counter staying at 1200 revs for a few moments then goes when the revs drop to tick over at just under 1000 revs. I feel it through the brake pedal, naturally, as this is the pedal I have just used to stop the car (obviously!?!). It only happens when I have revved the car a little bit before braking and does not happen if I slowly come to a stop whilst still in 4th or 5th and therefore not revved the car. That is why I feel it may be the turbo still spinning and so producing a bit of revs before settling down. Obviously I want to get this sprted but want to have some idea before speaking to the dealer. Is it likely to be the DV or not? All ideas welcome! Drillslinger
Not sure what your problem could be dude (Flywheel perhaps ) but it doesn't sound like the DV to me. You'll notice probs with the DV when your running, not slowing down/stopping.
bpsmith
Here's a strange thing. The problem I am having does not occur when I have the Climate Control off! Really strange that seems? This is really confusing me now. I know that the Climate Control does put extra load on the engine and so uses a smidge more petrol but why would it make the revs go slightly erratic by jumping up to 1.2k and then settle again at just under 1k at idle? Any ideas?
Drillslinger
When the CC is OFF, then the AC Compressor isn't spinning, so when you turn it back on, the engine then has to spin the compressor as well, which adds to the load, and drops the revs.
bpsmith
Thanks Drill, but the opposite of what you said seems to be happening. The revs jump up to 1.2k rather than drops. Happens when the CC is already on and after I have been driving and the car comes to tickover at below 1k then jumps up to 1.2k with a vibration. If try to replicate it with the CC off then cant do it! Has always been there since got the car but nowhere as much as it is now? What fault could be the cause? bpsmith
Sincalir Audi could not replicate this fault or the creak from the front suspension! Had to go there again in my lunchtime and show them! They could not even hear the cone rattling on the driver door and had to spoon feed them to put the right track on to hear it!!! What does this say about their chance of finding the real above faults? Did not have enough time try and replicate the creak as nothing to twist the suspension on in the forecourt but managed to show them the problem with the revs going up when the CC is on. They just said this was normal even though it has never happened before the last month or so! Anyone else had this type of problem?
bpsmith
RESULT!!! Decided to start from scratch and reset the ECU as done a lot of traffic driving around town and wondered if this was affecting the engine management part of the Climate Control. Also wanted to try this anyway as been told it makes the car go better by letting it tune to your style again. Went for a spin again after following the reset procedure and did not turn the compressor on for w ahile as wanted to see what the car went like after reset with no pull on it form the CC. Very please indeed with more responsiveness. Not done this before and perhaps the DV and K&N are now working correctly with the ECU? More importantly, then tried turning the compressor on and leaving it on all the way home from where I was. Around 8-10 miles or so of mixed fast and traffic full roads. The problem of the revs sticking at 1300 seems to have disappeared! Will continue to monitor it for w ahile but happy that this has solved the issue for some strange reason.
