barchdsgnr
I have a 03 passat 1.8t w/ 62,000 miles on it. Recently changed the oil, and suspiciously started having transmission problems right after the oil change. I drained 4 quarts of oil out of the car, so I then replaced it with 4 new quarts after changing the filter. The dipstick now reads significantly over the fill line, and the car will not engage the transmission. Engine starts up and runs, but transmission indicator light on the dash highlights all gears and the transmission will not engage. Anyone have any ideas? Rustynuts
Yep, you drained the transmission fluid instead of the engine oil. Don't start it, get it to a competent mechanic to drain to engine oil and refill with new oil. The the transmission will need refilling to the correct level. Is it an automatic or manual. There's probably a different procedure for each. Having said that I don't know the procedures. I have heard before that it's an easy mistake to do what you've done as the transmission drain is more prominent than the engine oil drain.
