Spongy may suggest the brakes may need bleed. If there is air trapped in the system maybe due to brakefluid boiling by a rather heavy footed previous owner or if it hasnt been changed recently - its hydroscopic. If pads are worn, the brakes should still feel firm, they just wont do much.

Hmmn reading audi....

Don't want to say too much on here cos it's not right, but lets just say i've had more than my fair share of problems with this dealer.

I still go back though, dont know why!

Get them to road test it and see what they think, ask them to bleed the system.

I think pads are about 35 quid, but i'd reccomend getting some better ones.

I had APR pads on my S3 brakes and they made a big difference, they were 50 quid

Hi Matt.. Welcome on board ! Do you drive through Meopham along the A227 about 6:30 in the eves ? I've seen an imola S3 a couple times over the last week or so (not seen it before).. Thought S3Bangs or ChrisRhodes had crossed into bandit country without permission tongue.giflaugh.gif

I'd join Dean in saying hmmmmmm Reading Audi. My one and only visit to them (before they moved to their plush new site) left me less than impressed, and resulted in a letter to their management.

I went in to get the rear windscreen washer fixed and an annoying high frequency click on the CD multichanger, and I came back with:

a) the outer housing for the windscreen washer missing!

b) the rubber strip in the engine bay dangling on the road - only kept on by one corner.

c) and a "I duno-guv the radio sounds fine to me mate." even though I'd been standing outside part of the time and said I could demonstrate it if need-be.

It wasn't so much the stuff which went wrong, but the feeling that I'd never trust the monkey that was let loose on my car anywhere near my engine or brakes!

They seemed to have greatly improved their new site, so I hope they're also improved some of their mechanics. Still I'd want to hear "success" stories from fellow owners before going back there.

Having said all that, their "sister" site at Slough did a nice (and quite cheap) service + maintenance a couple of weeks ago. Course, they failed to tell me that my frount tyres were illegal (resulting in my MOT failure on XMas eve), but I guess you can't have everything. I don't think there's an Audi garage out there that catches everything!

I think I read that cars with ABS need to pumped longer to expel all the air (older saabs needed to be on the ground due to the compensation valve) . Was it a dealer that did it? Just make sure that they don't try to tell you that it needs discs and pads alround when it doesn't. BTW, are they spongy all the time or only when you are heavy on them? I suppose it could also be a really bad flexi-hose, but that is unlikely on a young car unless it is a manufacturing defect.

Matt it was a tadd foggy IIRC, shitty weather this time of year up here, thats what I get for living on top of the Northdowns.

I also use Whitehouse Aylesford, great service, although gets very busy on a Monday for servicing etc (most dealers must be the same ??)
