Plastic cover on underside of Golf IV

2001 Golf GT TDI 115bhp

Can anyone tell me what the proper name is for the "plastic cover" thing on the underside of the Golf?

I know its purpose is to protect the engine and limit the noise the diesel engine makes.

I can see there are three parts to it (left, central & right), which are supposed to be secured together.

I have a huge hole in the central part of the plastic cover from hitting it on speed bumps. Also the screws are rusty and loose on one side, so it rattles a lot. I've tried to tighten them but the holes where the screws fit are cracked.

I would also like to know how much these parts cost & the probable cost to get them fitted (ideally all three parts).

Thanks in advance.

Whereabouts are you? I have one sitting in the garage you can buy if you want, as I have a steel sump guard fitted. They cost about £60 from the dealers and mine was only on the car for a couple of weeks until I got the steel fitted.

I think they call it a sound dampening pan. Anyway, the parts dept will know what you want if you ask, as they'll sell a lot of them. The sump's very low on these, as I found out with the last one I had!!!!

Not got mine fitted on the Passat, saves time taking it off for servicing! And the fastenings are always dropping off.

I think a stone has damaged my engine as i have a coolant leak since a stone banged about under the engine.

They do quieten the engine a lot. If its protection you are looking for do what rusty did and go for a steel sump as the plastic offers limited protection
