Jez
[/ QUOTE ] Never been a big Wrangler person - but that - I like!!! [/ QUOTE ] Don't I'm missing it already ! I would have kept it if I had a smaller commute but it's just too jucy and is lacking in basic saftey features like ABS. The Rubicon is the best out of the box off-roader on the market but I have to agree with Ari on the relative saftey of vehicles desinged to go off road and there use on normal roads. My commute takes me down a highway with 8 lanes in either direction at some points so saftey was a major factor.
Jez
[ QUOTE ] That Jeep is a classic but to be very honest, hybrid anything doesn't excite me and I want to be excited about a car/vehicle. [/ QUOTE ] If I somehow happen to end up in a Lexus GS450h for my next car, we can see how much of an exciting time you have trying to keep up in the GTI if you like. (Straight roads only, mind... )
RedRobin
Hi garcon, it's not about keeping up or beating someone for me. It's more about the feel of driving a sporty car and hearing a good exhaust note from a petrol engine. Call me a Petrolheadaurus if you like. garcon magnifique
Well if you're in the GTI you'll still have the sporty feel and exhaust note. You'll just see the Lexus disappearing into the distance. It has a 3.5 V6 petrol engine btw, which you might just hear over the whine of the electric motor. Apparently it sounds a bit like a DLR train...
RedRobin
I've no problem with seeing other cars overtake me and/or disappear into the distance. I'll try and keep an open mind and wait and see what such cars are like but I'm not holding my breath!
garcon magnifique
Early roadtests say the Lexus GS450h is pretty quick, but it's no sportscar. Heavy batteries in the boot mean good weight distribution, but 2 tons is 2 tons! If you have £40k plus to spend on a barge and do alot of urban miles it makes some sense. Otherwise, we'll have to wait for technology to develop a little more, I think.
CarMad
Garcon get this weeks Autocar if you haven't already. GS, vs BMW 335d and an E class in it. Not read it yet.
garcon magnifique
Cheers! 335d or 535d? I'd have thought 5 series would fit in better? It'll be interesting to get real world mpg figures for the Lexus. Apart from urban crawl (where it's running mostly on electric) I suspect it's not too good - certainly worse than the diesels. For lots of motorway miles, diesel is still the way to go.
CarMad
Dyslexic fingers twas indeed the 535d !! I think it got comparable figures to the 535d from my very quick scan, it only arrived yesterday and I went straight off to the cinema. It was the difference it the tax rates for company car drivers that was the killer. 22% against 30ish % from memory. That is a major diffennce. The Lexus came third in the test but certainly from my scan of the verdict was discraced, with the others only half a star ahead.
