Trouble removing ignition key on DSG

Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems removing their ignition key with the DSG.

There seems to be a interlock between having the box in Park and being able to remove the key.

At the moment if I put it into park rotate the key fully CCW I can't remove the key.

I have to push on the gear lever a bit and move the key around in some type of combination to get it out.

Prior to today it's been ok, but was a bit stiff when I first got the car.

Can someone tell me if they push the gear lever into park can they hear a relay click under the dash.

When it seems to work I think I can hear a relay click.

I get similar if I pull up and whilst moving into park start to turn key off at the same time. I have to turn ign back on, and then select r then back to P and then turn key off. Its just me being hasty trying to start key removal before P is fully selected. Try stopping, putting into P then moving key. HTH 169144-ok.gif

Yes, rushing it always causes a block as the software/hardware interface takes more than an instant to catch up.

If you put it in park before you turn off the engine, then it's quick. Turning off and putting in park in the same manouvre often fools it into thinking you are still in gear and stopping you from fully turning the key to the "taking it out" position.

Agree with Robin - Less haste = more speed

Takes a while to get used to......

No - I think the problem I have is a problem not the way it's supposed to work.

I understand that you have to put it into Park before you can remove the key.

If you don't you then have to put it into Park then move the key CW the CCW then remove the key.

I can do a slow motion put it into Park turn the Igition off and still not get the key out.

Anyway I pulled the trim and boot off around the DSG lever (easy to get off by the way).

There's a solenoid that locks into a metal hole that stops you moving the lever.

I'm thinking the solenoid might be getting stuck.

I've put some silicon oil on the solenoid plunger and it seems to be working - tried it twice & I can pull the key out now.

I'll see how it goes.

I will have a look at that on my spare DSG lever at home grin.gif Short story, but ICE installer scrapped my plastic cover around DSG and I complained and they ordered me new one - basically you get the whole kit, lever and all - not just the cover. So now I have my own DSG gear lever to sit next to my bed beerchug.gif - well in a box in the garage really.

Interesting, I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of it if you ever get a chance to post one.

Looks like there was also a circuit PCB attached to the side of the complete gear lever.

Whatever I did to the solenoid seems to have fixed it.

Being an Electronic Tech and pulling things apart for a living I'd sooner understand how it works, if possible, then take it to a service dept.
