nhs
Good point OliH Bulldoze - are you on 17s or 18s? If the damage is to an 18 then a replacement is almost mandatory - can you post any pictures of the wheel damage so we can get a better idea? If the scrape is superficial on a 17, then what is essentially a repaint might be reasonable. However asking for a new wheel might have been best - however you can always reject the work if it doesn't resolve the situation and then insist on a new wheel.... Can you post some pics please? bulldoze
Not got my camera to hand but I will try at a later date. I am on 18" and I know that the wheel is difficult to refurbish but the dealer was very confident in the abilities of the guy they outsource their alloy work. I cannnot fault the work done to be honest, the scrape was only 3cm and not very deep but unless you get 6 inches away from the wheel and you know what you are looking for then I do not think you will notice. I am happy with the work anyway!
Oli
If you are ehappy then all is good, but ask for the wheel to be warranted inline with the vehicle warranty!
TwoSheds
Good point.. as the refurbisher I spoke to would not warranty the repair on an 18" because the clear lacquer, if penetrated again, would expose the milled alu surface to corrosion again. R32Sue
I have just taken my R32 in to dealer for some minor paint repair....they use an outside agent for this......but I thought that I would get it done through VW as the car is new and I've only done 1500 miles in it....went to pick it up Saturday and it was in the service bay on charge........prior to this when I called to see if it was ready they didn't know anything about the car! To cut a long story short the car was on charge out of 'courtesy' to me as they had flattened the battery (how?), and when I went to collect it today the paint job was totally substandard (some damage had been totally missed, it was scratched and there was a bubble).....to add insult to injury the front passenger wheel has been kerbed and the VW centre hub on said wheel is missing!!! I am really annoyed as I trusted this dealer.....and they are denying that the damage has been caused by them. The car is going back to the paint shop tomorrow for inspection....but I am not going to pay a penny until it is put right. In the meantime I have alternative transport........but I have had to spend time and energy messing about and am still without my car!

jhibbin
It is amazing what a formal letter will do, I was given similar advice by a legal helpline on an issue I had with a SEAT dealer some years back. It was a different story after the letter...service level changed altogether. FYI you can get paint inspections done which can stand up as evidence in a small claims court I had quotes for my GTI after the crash and it was £245 for a full paint inspection and formal report. www.dekra-assured.com if you are interested, in the end I was very happy with the work so didn't bother. RAC also do similar service. Hopefully won't come to this...write a letter and see if they wise up.
Spot
There's a lesson for us all here.... Before leaving cars for service, insist on a joint inspection with any pre-existing damage recorded. Shouldn't be necessary...but it seems some dealership staff like to 'rag' our pride & joys
