mart2
I have a 2000 'w' 115 bhp passat. The number plate lights do not work. I have changed the bulbs but still nothing so i assume its an electrical problem. Is there a fuse somewhere that has blown ? It seems to feed off the same circuit as the boot lock motor. Is that true ? Is there a simple fix to this before I spend money at an auto electrician. Thanks
v23
Have you checked the fuse box. The manual should have a section in in which interprets the symbols on the fuse box case into their meanings.
mart2
ok, i'll check the fuse box. Only problem is, i dont know where the fuse box is because i dont have that section of the car manual. Could someone point me in the right direction ? thanks
guzpot
should imagine its on the right end of the dash drivers side open the door and you can remove the end panel to display the fuse box.
MPTNB
9 times out of 10 it is caused by a poor earth contact. Identify the earth side of the lights and link a cable to a bare metal part of the car - if it then lights there's your answer. Good luck
pugboy
My rear plate lamps corroded inside so replacing bulb made no odds. Bought new lamp holders. Only a few quid.
sparky2076
i had same prob turned out to be broken wire in flexi loom to boot lid (on lhs)if you take cover off boot lid (where hazard triangle goes)you can unplug wires to number plate.had to pull new wire in not big job but a bit of a pain.if u pull wires u may find broken one without belling out
