Tunit V-PD Engine Chip on TDi 130 Sport Passat.

Recently fitted a Tunit V-PD chip to my 52 Passat Sport 130 TDI Estate. Well worth the effort giving 25/30 bhp and large increase in torque but more importantly making the car much more pleasurable to drive.

Smoother gearchanges and more economy. Find yourself in higher gear than you would normally drive in. Sixth gear which was seldom used here in mid Wales is now a reality

due to the increased flexibility. The car feels more nimble on twisty roads due to the increased torque. There is no black smoke during hard acceleration and 52/55 mpg is easily attained. Doesn't seem to be any downside apart from the increased insurance of £70. The unit was advertised on ebay with original invoice from the Tunit agent in Eire who fitted it in March 2006 to the sellers car for 600+ Euros. Offered £200 which was refused but bought finally with a bid of £154!! It was boxed with original invoice and in mint condition on its original default setting of 5. It is adjustable between 1-9 and can also be connected to a laptop for adjustment.

Not as easy to fit as the Tunit chip for the 110 TDi due to the location of the plugs on the rear of the PD cylinder head requiring loosening intercooler pipes etc but a really worthwhile improvement all round. Bromleys the agents for Tunit couldn't be more helpful even though I'd bought second-hand. Warranty isn't transferable to second owner but can be purchased for £69 inc a thorough check of the unit if you require a warranty! We have another Tunit chip that has passed from 90bhp 94 Passat to a 110bhp 98 Passat covering 100k 'chipped' between them without problem. I have no connection whatsoever with Bromleys or the car trade, just a very satisfied customer. smirk.gifsmile.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

Wobby,

My first few weeks of ownership of the Passat were blighted with water slopping around the footwells so it is etched deeply into my mind as is the stealers many attemps to sort it!! Seem to recall also the 600+ miles covered to get the job done under warranty.

Now the harder it rains the bigger the smile!
