TDi Engines

Hi there, I have a Bora 100 PD and have looked at options for getting a remap done and have often wondered what are actual differences to the engines that give each power rating of 100/110/115/130/150, etc as a starting point? Is it the size of Turbo alone or is there something more?

Cheers

Hi Welcome to tyresmoke.

I would assume that your engine is probably the same as my Beetle one. Usually the tuners quote gains for a 'stage 1' conversion of about +30bhp and 30lbft - I would guess iro £400ish.

I'd have a chat with people like RSD (www.rsdcars-uk.co.uk) Star Performance, APS who should be able to advise of what to expect and what costs would be involved.

Cheers Guys, though not really what I was asking, I've had an 2.4 JTD Alfa and another JTD Fiat both of which I had running remaps.

My question is what makes the different power outputs in standard form, there all 1.9 tdi's so how does VW get a power range of 100 to 150? Is it turbo's, valve sizes, modified heads?

Many thanks

Hi, the 100bhp, 130bhp and the 150bhp are all PD engines - roughly translated as deisel pump, the other two are not they are totaly different engines (VP37). All the PD models come with a garret T2 turbo (except any aniversary editions)and all have very different engine parts and ecu maps. Although the 130 and the 150 are very similar to drive and have the same turbo there have different engine parts - not just the ecu map as many people think.

The 100, 115, 130, and 150 are all PD engines. PD is short for Pompe Duse which translates from German as Unit Injector.

The basic engines are the same. The only difference is a set of bolts in the head somewhere, a larger front mounted intercooler, and a different remap. The turbo part numbers are slightly different, but I don't know the actual difference, just a different letter suffix.
