judith_sw
Hi, Hopefully this is my last question, but I've had such good advice from this site so far ... Picked up one year old A3 a couple of weeks ago, but before I drove it away I fortunately noticed a stone chip/crack in the windscreen that could not be repaired. Audi did the honourable thing and agreed to replace it, using National Windscreens. Screen was duly replaced, but I noticed on the way home that it was distorted in the bottom 15-20% of the screen. I queried this, but was told that it was the curvature of the glass. However, I had a loan A3 today - original windscreen - no ditortion. I took it back to NW to show them and the manager agreed that it was unacceptable and has offered a replacement Securit or a Pilkington, if they can source one (no luck so far). Has anyone had any similar experiences? Is distortion acceptable? My brother has an A4 and recently had his screen replaced. There is some distortion at the bottom, but not as bad as mine. The original seemed faultless. NW have agreed to refund Audi if they can't get a good one and let Audi source another one. I don't want to make a fuss, but ... any advice? Thanks! chiller
Go ahead and get the new windscreen no matter where it comes from.I bought a 2year old A3 privately then got some warranty work done at the local Audi dealer.I had the armrest replaced, and an annoying rattle sorted as well.I don't ever use them and will never use them,my local independant is ten times better and lots cheaper and I get to talk about the car to the mechanic not some bloke emplyed on the front desk
judith_sw
Result- Audi have ordered me a 'proper' replacement windscreen and National Windscreens will fit it! The moral of the story is ... if you have a replacement screen, check at the bottom for distortion! P.S. I REALLY like this site! I might turn into an enthusiast, like my father!!! judith_sw
For info ... I now have a perfect windscreen (with the Audi rings on too). It was made by Guardian rather than Pilkington, but is spot on. My brother also needed a replacement screen for his A4 from a different windscreen company. While the distortion in his is no way as bad as the one in mine (I'm pretty sure mine was faulty), it's there nevertheless. Beware of substandard replacements - don't accept them!!! That's not to say that Audi are the only good ones, but I think it's worth checking at the time of replacement. BTW National Windscreens have been excellent throughout all this, so in terms of service and advice I cannot praise them enough and would definitely recommend the Chester branch.
