RedRobin
AP Racing tell me: "Hi Robin Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated, ........... You can guide any enquiries towards our official agents, listed on web link http://www.apracing.com/info/source.htm They are likely to offer some discount." I thought this discount info might be helpful for anyone saving up for the BB kit.
danksy
I would advise anyone considering a brake upgrade to take a high performance driving course first The course will show you how to get the most out of your car, and ability without resorting to expensive brake mods Of course if you do regular track work, then upgraded brakes will be a must! Don't get me wrong... big brakes make a huge amount of difference to the braking ability but in terms of bang-for-buck you would get a lot more from a driving course then re-evaluate Be interesting to get your views on John Cave from your drivetrain Robin
RedRobin
I haven't booked John Cave yet but will phone him after Christmas. I've started to chat to Sam about it and am feeling less 'scared'!! I would only add that my brake upgrade costs were a special offer by AP themselves which no-one would refuse! I cannot disclose further details. Yes, I'm doing it the wrong way around in some ways but I think I will learn from Drivetrain more when driving my car as it is - With its performance mods. I'm not planning to do any track days. Personally, I would also advise a brakes upgrade for a remapped GTI. Currently I would say that my car's performance is potentially above my driving skills. I'm particularly well focussed but not necessarily as highly skilled as some of you guys on TSN. I developed an excellent road-sense from racing bicycles but that's not everything a driver needs. I'll most certainly be sharing my views in due course, for what they're worth. Cheers, dansky
RedRobin
Just a note to inform that the light doesn't come on if you have aftermarket brakes such as my AP Racing kit. However, visual inspection of the pads is one heck of a lot easier on AP's calipers.

I thought this discount info might be helpful for anyone saving up for the BB kit. [/ QUOTE ] I took a good look through their distibutors and dealers and to be honest its a pretty poor show. The vast majority are either bike or single car (BMW) specialists. Some just sell parts / spares and some have no idea what AP Brakes are at all. I have only found one company worth following up with from the whole list and they are 100's of miles away. Its such a shame that a great product is so hard to find, get quotes or get them fitted. Seems like you struck gold Robin, not surprised that few people have gone for this mod its much harder to find than a remap.

RedRobin
....and info now sent to AP. I just want to make clear to everyone that I'm not on any commission etc - AP have helped me and I help them also because I believe in their product. It's just networking and helping fellow TSNers . Chungster
Yeah most are specialists with certain marques. Demon Tweeks is only one that do all and sundry. However any VW Tuner should be able to order u a set and fit for you. It's not exactly rocket science fitting an aftermarket brake set up.
Snoopy
Any good small private run independent garage in your area should have no problem fitting them for you.
RedRobin
Also, AP include an excellent step by step manual on how to install which is illustrated - I'd forgotten because I didn't have to use it.
RedRobin
Got this reply back this morning: "Canterbury is a little out of the way to our nearest active brake kit Agent, but because we don’t sell these specialised parts via big retailers / dealerships there are always going to be areas in the country that are not easily covered by our official UK Agents of which there are 9 of them plus 6 official dealers . Not a problem if the customer is just purchasing the parts to have fitted by a competent local garage. All relevant fitting instructions are included; therefore a well equipped garage should do the job in just under 3 hours. However if wants them fitted by an APR Distributor then I would suggest or agent Circuit Supplies, based in Leighton Buzzard, tel 01525 385888, they may also offer a discount on the parts? He could also try our dealer and BMW specialists Kevin Birds Garages Ltd, a little nearer to him at Uxbridge, tel 01895 810850. They are more than capable of fitting a VW kit. All though I can see how the fitting issue could be seen as a problem the reality is with the hundreds of kits we sell PA the fitting question very rarely comes up when customers are sourcing the kit. It doesn’t require any specialised dealership tooling to do the work and so the usual result being owners either fit the parts themselves or find a local garage or mechanic capable of doing this type of brake work. Hope this helps." HTH, Robin
RRR250
Just one more note to any one thinking about buying a set of AP's. Been in too minds about selling my GTI and buying a new WRX. I rang AP and the brakes will go on the subaru and I'd guess other cars simply by buying new bells and brackets. It gets evan better.
