i noticed this when i first got my car but haven't really considered it til now so...........

any obvious or usual reasons why Cruise control wouldn't work?

i'm assuming it takes its speed information from the ABS as most cars do nowadays but as the ABS & auto box etc are working correctly i guess its getting speed information & must be another problem smashfreakB.gif

i'm not desperate to fix it but it would be nice to have everything working coffee.gif

I had this problem when I bought my secondhand facelift S8, although in my case the problem was intermittent; sometimes it would work sometimes not. The problem turned out to be a cracked wire in the selector stalk (apparently a well known problem). I followed the instructions in audipages (thanks to PaulW) which can be found here http://web.archive.org/web/2006020723280...tchreplace.html Although the facelift cars are slightly different the instructions provide the detail you need and, if that is the problem, your stealer can provide the correct stalk from your VIN number. As I recall the stalk was about £90 inc vat. If you examine your stalk carefully, you will see that the cruise control wire flexes each time you move the stalk - I guess they eventually fatigue and crack. Unfortunately if this is your problem you will not get much help from VAGCOM - mine just said " cruise control intermittnt". Of course, if it is something else it might tell you. Easy replacement job, took me about an hour but you do have to remove the steering wheel. Make sure that you disconnect the battery before disconnecting the airbag in the wheel!!! Should not go off even with the battery on but-----! Also, before you disconnect the battery make sure that you have the radio code; you will need it when you reconnect the battery.

thanks for that, i bet thats exactly what it is ROLLEY~14.GIF

we used to get Renault meganes breaking the wires on the stalks all the time & i used to resolder tham rather than replace them, spose i'll be going into work tomorrow now to check 169144-ok.gif

thats the second time i've asked a dumbass question on here only to be told the answer is on Audipages, you think i'd learn to look there first really smashfreakB.gif

thanks again 169144-ok.gif

  • 4 years later...

I have the same problem as the other postings: Cruise control not working on a 2005 Audi A8. I took it to a mechanic who put it through all sorts of electrical tests. Results were that the tests indicated activation of the Cruise Control showed the electrical activity (i.e., electric current activated), but the Cruise Control still would not work. The mechanic suggested this may be a circuit board issue that only an Audi dealer could diagnose. It strikes me as a little odd that that the CC would be on an entirely separate circuit board
