Si_GTi
All, Is there any wiring or sensory equipment behind a VAG auto-dimming interior rear view mirror, or is it just a little sensor under the mirror and a coated bit of glass that dims when the sensor picks up 'x' amount of light? Now that I'm 60mm lower, I really could do with one for night driving because van, truck and 4x4 headlights are bang in the middle of my rear window trying to blind me If I fit one from a Polo 9n or 9n3 it should just be a case of out with the old, in with the new, no? shao_khan
Well the ones I have looked at it has all been a self contained unit, replaces the existing unit and takes feed from up in the roof where the light is. I know a few beetle owners have done this - might be worth serching newbeetle.org.uk for a how to document.
mb
Everything is in the mirror so you just need to pick up earth & switched live think you can get these from the light but you might need to run a wire from the switch for the switched live. Based on golf you will need to change the bit on the glass as well as the mirror itself, trickiest part will be to find a neat bit of tubing to run the wires into the headlining - if you look at some parked up cars you will see what I mean.
