Atomic Posted January 24, 2007 Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 The obvious answer is a oil leak somewhere hot. Maybe a breather venting near the exhause manifold or exhaust which I seem to have read already on this forum. Another possibility is that it was topped up recently and some of the oil tribbled down underneath the casing and is slowly burning away somewhere. Clearly it needs a once over. ghemmings Posted January 24, 2007 Report Share Posted January 24, 2007 I had an oil leak from my lower sump gasket recently. Luckily it was easy to change and has stopped the smell of burning oil when parked up. Apparently, the oil was seeping out and hitting the exhaust by air force when driving at speed. It was only £20 for the gasket from Audi and half an hours extra labour on top of my oil service to change it. Hope yours is that simple! This is quite common and although the seal is cheap the labour to change it makes the job expensive. login Posted January 25, 2007 Report Share Posted January 25, 2007 yup right hand side driveshaft seal went on mine, smelt awful when parked up, and even smoked from the wheel well after giving it some beans! The seal costs about 28 quid, and 1 x 8mm allen key, and 1 x 6mm allen key fixed the new seal in, in around 40 minutes. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
