RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I had 18's on my white GTI. To be honest everytime I see a GTI with 17's it just looks like something is missing [/ QUOTE ] A driver with a spending addiction?.... [/ QUOTE ] Come on, you've bought a GTI, another couple of hundred pounds to make it look the part really doesn't qualify as a spending addiction [/ QUOTE ] ....I agree with you, Sam, that 18s deffo look much better but some GTI owners have had to stretch themselves to buy their car and may be shorter of funds than you or I [or have tricky wifeys/GFs ]. thabo
The problem is that it is not just about 400 pounds extra. I agree that 18s look the best but you have to weigh that up against more road noise, more rattles, scuffed wheels and lacquer coming off. - BTW Im still trying to decide so not biased. Muppetboy
I seriously regret not going for 18's and the cost never came into it. Fecking muppet
Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] Humm, I have never driven a Gti with them, but I don't get how Xenons are a must have extra when the standard lights are superb? [/ QUOTE ] I would never call the standard lights superb there Ok at best but no better than most infact not as good as most square lighted newer cars the bulbs mine came with were Changing the bulbs made a HUGE difference. The Xenons are brighter and whiter and give a little better distance and spread of light.
Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] All this talk about the ride, but the 18' look chavy side on and from any distance only those people who have them can claim to be able to tell the difference!!! *Waste of money IMO. *runs for cover. [/ QUOTE ] Depends imo it can make a big difference to the overall look on some colours. This is the SAME car with 17s then 18s on. I like both but the 17s will last longer. The 18s look more in proportion on the rear on this 5 door, in this shadow blue it can make the 17s look very small at the rear also the 17s on this colour have a slight colour clash. I think the 17s look there best on the white and red cars of all the colours. Im still a firm fan of the 17s and will still defend them but the 18s can make the car look so much better in certain colours just there finish is a pain in the neck to say the least. thabo
I suppose in the end it is just doing to preference- there does not really seem to be a good or bad choice.
