baldrick
Picking up on a post in the car reviews section, does anyone have any comments on whether to go for a Sport model with 17" wheels or the S-Line model with 18" wheels. Does the latter compromise ride too much. I am looking at getting a Sportback 2.0T FSI S-Tronic Thanks Tony
Vertigo1
The difference in ride between the Sport and S-Line is quite subtle IMO and less than the difference between an SE and a Sport. You really need to test drive each though as everyone is different.
d3fy
Same as what vertigo said. I find mine quite hard.
MarskeBear
you can add trim as a retro...the 2.0t is great engine in what ever guise...
Fazzzman
I found the A3 S-Line far too hard for the driving that I do ... getting soft in my old age ...
ahaydock
For me S-Line all the way!
edo
I thought S-line suspension was the same as Sport - just trim, body and wheel changes?
DandB
If you have a weak bladder, loose teeth prone to falling out, or live where there are uneven pothole style roads everywhere the S line could break you. Other than that i love the look of my S line, couldn't buy an A3 without it and it loves corners.

edo
To confirm, S-Line and Sport are the same in terms of suspension. Indeed the brochure describes S-Line as "trim". The only difference would be the 18 inch wheels from "normal" sport. S-Line consists of (in addition to sport); 5 arm 18's (when I ordered you could have the 14 spoke bbs style 18's for free, but these are now not an option) Black Headlining Brushed Ali inlays Sports bumpers front and rear Sports seats Vienna Leather (Or half if you prefer) Illuminated mirrors Sports leather wheel Leather gear knob (manual) S-line grille and badges Roof spoiler
Cupramax
[ QUOTE ] To confirm, S-Line and Sport are the same in terms of suspension. [/ QUOTE ] Not when I bought mine it wasn't. S-line has 10mm lowered suspension guarantee'd to remove any loose fillings.
edo
no mention of that in any literature I have/ the audi site. Ali? Anyone else who knows more?
baldrick
Everything I have seen says the Sport is also lowered by 15mm. The brochure states the Sport has sports suspension compared with the SE but the S-Line has no suspension changes referred to over the Sport. The only difference from a handling perspective is the 18" wheels according to the brochure. I drive an Alfa 156 Veloce and have seen similar debates between Lusso (standard suspension) or Veloce (sports suspension). I have no issue with the Alfa ride although plenty of motoring journalists do. I found the 159 too soft although again the motoring journalists rave about the improved ride. So I will go with the S-Line.
Dandle
In my 2006 brochure under on the second page of the S-line part of the brochure it says "S-line Quattro GMBH sports suspension, with dynamic suspension adjustment, 10mm lower(compared to ambition)". Ambition is what they call the sport in germany and that is out of a UK brochure.
edo
Happy to be proved wrong (means I am getting more for my money!)... Hopefully someone from Audi/dealer will confirm either way?
aliAUDI
ed's bang on the money. s line has larger wheels (that contributes to a harsher ride), but same sus set up...
rich1068
Well I'm off to the stealers first thing tomorrow for a refund then. I specifically asked 'What would be the worst car to drive around the pot holed streets of Sheffield in?', they said 'Oh, that would be the S-Line Sir. The Sport is for ladies and hairdressers, or ladies hairdressers. The Sport cossets your posterior but the S-Line jars your spine in a reassuringly expensive way.' Bloody rip off merchants
