gtijames
Picking my new S3 up next week , so just trying to sort my insurance out. Have managed to get a reasonable quote from my current company (Admiral). One thing though, they're asking me what optional extras the car has as apparently this can effect the actual cost of the policy. I don't remember having to do this on previous new cars I've bought, and when I asked some questions about it the lady on the phone wasn't too clear. From what I gather they're saying that if you list all your options then they'll take this into account in the event of a payout, which I suppose is a good idea! Was just wondering if anyone else has had to list their optional extras when getting a quote? Cheers

[/ QUOTE ] No I'm not expecting them to do that. But what I do want is proof that if I pay more for the policy, by detailing what options I've spec'd, then they're definately gonna pay up the full price if need be. They couldn't confirm this! As you say, normally you just inform them of the price of the car, which is what I expected them to ask me.
JohnS3
I'm with Privilege and they too asked for a list of factory options.

bells0
As far as i know [unless its changed] the Admiral group [inc Bell and Elephant] charge you for any extras - but don't pay out for them! - they only pay out on a bog standard car excluding options. Quattrophenia
I've just gone with Swiftcover and were by far the cheapest on my B7 S4 Avant. Cost is £602 for me and the wife doing 25,000 p.a. (inc 10,000 business miles) with a £250 excess. 5yrs NCD and 1 x SP30 conviction. Pretty cheap all in all
gtijames
Well, just confirmed it with Admiral. Even though I've informed them what options are on the car and what the increased value of the car is, they do not cover these on the policy! So if the car is stolen they'll only pay back the price of a standard spec car (not really a problem as I'm taking out GAP), but this means if the car is damaged in an accident and some of the options need replacing then I'll have to pay for them or they'll replace them with standard spec items! I did ask how this would work if I'd spec'd a sunroof and it was damaged in an accident, they couldn't really answer
d3fy
They make it up as they go along, I have just insured my partners engagement ring on the home insurance and it cost £17 for the remainder of the contract, I then added my Rolex which cost less than the ring and they charged me more £24, hows that work then? garcon magnifique
Yep - daft innit, but that's probably how the insurance co. see it.
gordie1973
I had a similar issue when insuring mine, I mentioned that I would do around 20,000 miles per year, Dirct line girl said due to higher milage my premium would go up due to the fact I was more likley to have an accident due to law of averages......to which I replied "Yes but its less likley to be stolen ....." Quote stayed the same - nuff said.

And we all know if a car has 5K worht of extras when new it is not worth 5K more than a standard car 3 years on. Oh, and it is funny how you do not have to tell your insurance company about any additional points you have on your license until the insurance renewal - I thought they could have caught onto that one right away. Vertigo1
So if you're insured with Admiral and some pikey has it away with your RNS-E, they'll offer to replace it with a Concert? Total joke and borderline illegal if you ask me - I'd love to hear what the insurance ombudsman would have to say about that.
