whistling wind noise??

anyone anyone?

missus GTI, all running pretty well but I'm gradually compiling a small list of things that I want VW to fix for free before the warranty runs out next Feb.

The main beef I have is that on a decent road at 50mph both front windows develop a whistling noise, well irritating, remains there even if you open the window, and only stops when you get to 75mph/80mph.

Is it an easy fix, don't want VW doing 50 miles in it and then saying it's a fault not found.

Help!!!

The wind noise from the side windows was for me the greatest irritation when I first picked up my car. I raised it with the dealer who did make adjustments to the door but basically stated that it was a design fault with the external mirrors. Allegedly, the noise is generated by the air flowing between the mirror housing and the side of the car. 21 months down the line and the noise is still there but it bothers me much less. I guess I've just got used to it.

Other people have also claimed that it is the air entering the mirror housing through the slight gap by the indicator lens that is the source of the problem. I tried (temporarily ) placing masking tape over the joint to see if it made a difference. It didn't for me frown.gif

The whistle is not the door or door seals. It can be rectified by carefully filling the gaps between the indicator and the wing mirror housing with silicone.

TBH though, a few thousand mile on, you don't even notice it - not like those fecking occasional rattles!

Its how i fixed ours.

The door fit and seal is also a design fault problem well known and one of the reasons VW wants the mk6 out asap.

Adjustment of the door and a new seal can often cure it.

I've noticed since i've picked up my car that the drivers door that was aligned nicely when I bought it (it was one of the things I was warned to check by you kind people) has gradually slipped out of alignment, the top is now sticking out by a couple of mm and the bottom is tucked in by a similar amount.

This is causing a little bit of a whistle.

I think i'm right in saying that adjustments to doors and panels have to be done by quite a low mileage (3250 if memory serves correctly) to be covered by the warranty.

I've just broken 3k so will need to get it looked at ASAP.
