Jimbob_S3
Hi All, Anyone ever cleaned the throttle body on the S3? - if so any tips or help. Or anyone ever paid for the job and how much was it...? Just looking at doing the job to try and cure some occasional hesitation. Cheers.
Paul
Never needed to do it. Have you tried a throttle body reset via vag-com before you take it to bits? http://www.wak-tt.com/vagcom/vagcomthrottlebodyadapt.htm
Jimbob_S3
Done that Paul. Doesn't make any difference, just had a number of suggestions pointing to cleaning the throttle body. Maybe I shouldn't touch it, I might not be able to put it back together...
rich1068
I'm guessing we're talking about an 8L S3? It's really simple to clean the throttle body. Different engine but the theory is the same, see http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=27695&highlight=throttle+body And the missing pic from my reply is... Paul
Just remember the S3 Throttle is Drive by Wire (DBW) Personally i wouldnt touch mine unless i absolutely had to. There is clearly a gasket between the throttle body and intake manifold and I would imagine it would be easily damaged seperating the two parts. rich1068
I was only using the pic for information purposes. My Octavia was DBW and I had the throttle body off a couple of times to clean it, no problem. The conclusion I reached was that a lot of stop/start, town driving caused the stutter. Good link here from Briskoda too http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia/splutter-doing-my-head/58708/
Jimbob_S3
Thanks for links. It is on an 8L S3. I'll debate whether to take it to bits or not.... maybe best if i leave it alone and pay the independent. I do a lot of town driving now, think this is probably gunking it up.. rich1068
I you do pay an independent then expect a bill for no more than half an hours labour. You may find this interesting too. Cracking post, even though I say so myself.
