grahamb
I'd like to fit an RS6 rear spoiler on the boot lid of my A6 (hence other posts trying to identify the paint code). The on on vagparts says its stuck on with silicon. Doesn't that mean that a) it could fall off at speed and b) its nickable! Are the ones on the RS6 stuck on or bolted on? Are the vagparts spoilers genuine RS6 spoilers?
Big_Al
I brought my RS6 rear spoiler from VAGparts and it is a genuine one. The spoiler actually comes with studs moulded in, to bolt onto the boot lid. The body shop that fitted mine asked if they could cut the studs off and bond it on, which I agreed to. The reason was that once you drill the boot lid its really hard to seal and stop future rust and water ingress, plus it will invalidate any remaining paintwork warranty(unless Audi fit it). The bonding agents they use are permanent, will not fall off and if anyone tries to nick it, you boot lid will be f*cked whether its bonded or bolted on. They do change the whole look of the rear end, looks less rounded, sharpens it up.
grahamb
Many thanks. I'll order one today. Out of interest, how much did you spend on getting it sprayed and fitted? I'm interested in making it look sharper, and reducing the CD. Reading an interesting book on aerodynamics at the moment, and a rear spoiler is supposed to lower CD quite considerably. Dont imagine for one second it produces any downforce. I'm just after an improvement in MPG really, at least thats what I told the wife
Big_Al
I paid £110 for painting and fitting, but he also polished out a few deep scratches on the bonnet for that. It was done by a small bodyshop just outside Bristol, recommended by a couple of TSN guys(bit too far for you ). Post some pics when its fitted Good luck Al
grahamb
Its arrived! I'll get my local paint shop to spray it and fix it on. Is there a guide supplied which shows the exact mounting position? Dont want them sticking it on upside down or in the wrong spot.
grahamb
Big_Al, collecting my spoiler from the paint shop tomorrow. Did you use a template for sticking yours on the boot lid, how do you know whats the right position? Is there a measurement from the edge of the boot lid to the edge of the spoiler that you could supply?
Big_Al
Hi Graham, I didn't have a template, I just downloaded loads of pictures off internet, printed them and gave them to the bodyshop who fitted it. The top of the spoiler should be in line with the top edge of the rear light assembly, and you should have about 18-20mm gap either side. Good luck, don't forget the pics. grahamb
Fitted it this lunchtime. Took an hour. Made a template from some cardboard. Started with 3mm pilot holes then used a cone cut to enlarge. Stuck it on using the supplied adhesive tape, and used sealent around the bolt holes to keep the water out the boot. Looks brill IMO. I've taken piccies, will download them tonight. Its an easy mod if you use the article on Audiworld.
