nikw
Looks as if I'm going to have to pull mine apart and get busy with the brake cleaner! Thanks for the pics David
Ska
I done this to my car a while ago I'm surprised you didn't get the stalling when approaching a traffic light symptoms with it being so dirty. I tells ya that is a brown trouser moment especially when your trying to stop and turn at the same time; No PAS
nikw
Oh I've had that stalling problem, except living near MK it inevitably happened when entering a roundabout. Brown trousers because no PAS? How about no PAS, no engine and halfway on to a roundabout with cars approaching fast from behind and the right It took me several looooong seconds to realise that the engine wouldn't restart with the transmission in D That was caused by a split in the breather hose that runs across the front of the engine (see hose highlighted in attachment) rather than gunk in the throttle bodies, but I'm keen to avoid it happening again whatever the cause! david1
I did get the stalling, but at the lights I just selected neutral before it cut out and that did the trick as it raised the revs.
david1
It that the standard breather hose or is it just the 2.8 that has the brittle type?
NickGUK
Don't have any stallling issues (touchwood) but i like clean thingys, so looks like i might well spend a few hours cleaning mine up to.
nikw
Mine's a 99 4.2 and the breather hose appeared to have perished rather than being brittle. Well worth taking the central plastic shroud off the engine and having a look if you're under the bonnet anyway. I'll post some pics of mine before and after. IT_S8
Hey Nick, thanks for the breather hose tip..... This motor I just got from Jim was suffering exactly what you described, and the breather hose was indeed perished.... £2.40 for a meter of hose from Halfords, and it now idles, well, perfectly... Shame the Tax just expired or I could try it out properly.... I know I'm on about breaking it for parts, but curiosity got the better of me :-)
nikw
Glad to hear it Much, much better than paying a stealer to change the MAF, gearbox and injectors in vain. s As for the tax, I think you'll find that the tax disc off one of your other cars will fit in the holder just fine And I will post those pics (err, as promised) soon... msey
Could you post me the Link on how to carry this out, as I think that Mine could do with a clean. Have tried to search for it but not having much joy. Thanks.
nikw
Certainly. They can be found on PaulW's excellent site here. What he doesn't say is that in order to see and replace the hoses you first need to remove the black plastic shrouding on the top of the engine. However, this isn't tricky - the locations of the retaining screws is obvious. If need any more help just shout
msey
Sorry for being a bit stupid, but was more interested in the cleaning of the Throttle body (think that is what is in the PICS). I have replaced the breather hoses, but I am having problems with ideling when coming to a stop, and it cutting out, more when engine cold than warm. thanks.
