Windscreen seals gone - repair or replacement?

The windscreen seals on my Audi 80 have gone at the bottom and water enters the car whenever it rains heavily. Is it possible to get this repaired or is it a replacement screen job? I'm only TPFT on it so I don't want to fork out for a new screen frown.gif

The Audi 80 front windscreen is bonded: The glass floats on a layer of mastic. The trims are merely aesthetic, making the car look smoother, cutting wind noise and covering the [brittle] edges of the glass. Theoretically on a bonded screen, you can pull all the trims off, park it in a car wash and it shouldn't leak.

Therefore replacing the trims on a leaking bonded screen won't stop the leak. Bonded glass isn't designed to be removed - it is designed to stay stuck in the event of a roll over. Removing it in one piece is difficult. Remove and reseal labour on a bonded front windscreen is 104.75 mobile (including vat), discounted to 85.19 in-branch.

Replacement of the entire glass would sort the leak and give you a nice new clean, like for like screen. Eurocode 8534AGNGNV iirc. As mentioned at Windsor, it really is a shame you are not Fully Comp', for you would only have the 50/60 excess to pay....

Indeed, there is no guarantee the glass can be removed in one piece. The branch will heavily discount a screen and have one ready to go. They won't commence a removal unless you have agreed to the cost of replacment should it break.

As I say, it is shame you are not Fully Comp....
