Oatz
Right then, looking to get shot of the dish washers golf and replacing it with an original mini cooper. Can anyone please point me in the right direction? (re: models, options, known issues, prices etc etc) Many many thanks
Cameo
From the Minis I had as a kid the only two real problems I had was water in the distributer cap (even with a splash guard) and rust. Rust was the biggest problem especially in the rear sub-frame. They're great round town but noisey on A roads- don't forget they have four speed gear boxes. Ohh and if you're talking proper Cooper (circa 1960s) they're expensive to buy and get original parts. I'm sure RITEY will be along in a bit whose a real Mini fan- if not pm him. Oatz
Thanks Cameo, I'm not talking about a cooper from the 60's looking at possibly the run out model- 2000
Riz
Ive got a 1999 John Cooper Works S, its got abit of rust under the front windscreen but nothing which cant be repaird. Find a good example with minimal rust and then have it rust protected, this can set you back anything from about £300 upwards.... they spary all the cavities and under the car..... this will keep it tip-top. The Mini is full of character and alot of fun. There are plenty of limited edition models out there too...... Its a basic car but gets you from A to B with a big cheesy grin. LazyFox1
Hi all, if I was looking for a late mini it would be a 40 and if possible a JC conversion. Prices around the £5k mark. Or an earlier model 1990/91 try the ERA - prices are a bit higher.

Riz
Welcome to the forum LazyFox1, I recently sold my Mini and the main problem I had with it was rust..... everything else is more or less fixable cheap. Find a good mechanic or mini specialist but dont pay over the odd`s for work..... I did and was bend over alot...... but there wasnt really anybody else local who could do the work They require ALOT of TLC, which I couldnt fit in anymore hence why I sold it on to somebody who was going to look after it more..... its now living down in the Southend... awwww. Anyway if you need any more information feel free to ask. Cheers Riz

LazyFox1
Thanks for the vote of confidence, I'm just lucky that I know a lot of people who know an awful lot about mini's. What they don't know isn't worth knowing!! Sorry to hear you couldn't find a good garage or help in your area Riz. I agree that rust is the biggest problem everything else is simple mechanics and no computers. If anyone needs any help with their mini or information I would suggest trying this site http://specialistminiforums.yuku.com/
Riz
Riz, I think Mark knows more about Mini's than most people:grin:He is a very good mate of mine+++ I wasnt saying I knew everything about Mini`s, was just offering in case I could have helped :DAnd for the record I dont know that much about Mini`s..... so guess Mark`s the bloke to ask. It wasnt really a problem finding somebody to work on my Mini.. it was just the vast expense that the work came to..... I think they charged what they wanted knowning that people would have to travel out of town to get the work done etc. Riz
