Shorty
I would appreciate any help on this. The golf only seems to stall when slowing down i.e when coming upto to a junction / traffic lights / roundabout, or when parking i.e reversing etc. It seems only to do this once the engine has warmed up, i was told it could be the air flow meter. Also there seems to be a coolant leak, i filled the coolant bottle up to the maximum mark about 4-5 weeks ago and its down to half way already. This is the third time since December. ( maybe the same time when there was dodgy fuel going about, but can't remember when this was ) I don't know if these 2 are related in any way but they started roughly at the same time. If anybody need any more info i will gladly supply it. Many thanks
mulkbear
One your car does not have a air flow meter so i don't think it is that, and would suspect your throttle body needs cleaning out and resetting.

Shorty
Thanks, i will check this. went to a garage and they said it was the air mass meter or something like that and had it changed at a lot of cost but few weeks later started to happen again. got on M25 about 130 miles from where i live and car started juddering and loosing power, then just died. turned out the cambelt tensioner had gone its just plastic, cambelt was ok but had knackered the engine. The AA engineer who came out used to be a VW engineer said this is a common problem and if more than likely why the engine was stalling. I WOULD GET THIS CHANGED ASAP if this sounds familiar since the work has been done not stalled once.
