Mk4 Golf TDI ECU / Air Con Problem

Hi guys

I currently own a mk4 4 Golf GT TDI 110, ( whatever happened to my R32 days?? confused.gif)

I bought this car earlier on this year and now that it is getting warm I have noticed that my air conditioning does not seem to be working. I have taken my car to the local air con. specialists who have told me that it has an electrical fault which is stopping the car from powering up the compressor when the air con. is switched on ( the fans are fine). Today they hooked the car up to the laptop and they spent a while on the car only to find that they could not get the ECU to communicate with their laptop. The gentleman at the air con. place tells me that he has had this problem once before but this was with a Mercedes.

So all I am asking here is, does anybody know why the ECU in my car will not communicate with the computer from the air con. place?

As this is not working then the guys there can only go through and change each switch etc. until the problem may or may not be sorted, BUT this will cost me an arm and a leg so I do not wish to go down this road, (it is also not guaranteed that this will work).

Any help or advice much appreciated.

Answer to first question - I have Air-con not climate control

Second question - I have just checked the 3 fuses, they are all in one piece however, one of them has a brown colour on one side of it, corrosion perhaps? Shall I put a new one in?

PLEASE SEE ATTACHMENT

Just Air-con has NO diagnostics, So you can spend all day with a laptop and you wont get anywhere. 169144-ok.gif

Bet the fuse is the one nearest the passenger side of the car? This fuse provides the power feed for the air-con clutch, You might need a new fuseholder as these melt away.

I'll pop my invoice in the post for the arm and the leg, LOL

Hope you get it sorted ECLIPSe.gif

  • 3 months later...

The fuses on the battery are all terminal 30 (Permant power) Sound like the fuse holder has given up, You should have power out of the.

Start the engine switch the A/C on and try wiggling the fuses around if the fans cut in and the A/C starts it defiantly the fuse holder. 169144-ok.gif

Thats weird because I've done 2 fuse holders in the last 2 days!

My climate control is like this too. Car won't get icy cold. Air con specialist traced the fault to the ECU not sending out a signal to the climatronic to fire up. Want to get a chip made to make the ECU send out signal. I think this is nonsense as does everybody I have spoken to about it Awesome-GTI, APS and VW.

My fuse on the top of the battery is slightly melted, but I had it looked at by APS the other day (whilst I was having some other work done) and they said it not that. How are you testing the power out of the fuse holder - with a multimeter or something? I don't have one that will measure the exact voltage - only one that will check whether its live or not. I guess that will do for starters.

Does anybody have any other ideas why it might not be icy cold. It has been regassed, and cleaned out. It will get hot, and does go colder, just not icy cold. My fans are OK too. Any help would be appreciated 169144-ok.gif
