marco21
Hi all, I have a bit of a dilemma which i need a bit of advice with....just wanted to know what people would go for if they had to decide on either the mark 5 GTI or the Ltd Edition. I previously had a diamond black GTI which i had to reluctantly get rid of to downgrade to a clio 182 (whilst saving for my wedding in sept next year!!) Now sept 2008 seems along way away but it will no doubt fly round and thats when i get my way and choose another vehicle. Now since i have had a GTI before i think i have the bug now and i really want another one. Although this time it will be a much better spec as i will know i must get 18"s, ipod, centre armrest, leather, xenons and highline as options (Last time i didnt have a clue what was best!!) Although i would love another one, the Ltd edition still appeals, the extra horse power would be fantastic although i dont know if i am that keen on the alloys. (Aside from the two golfs, a S3 and a A4 Cab S Line have been mentioned - A4 Cab more so) So i basically wanted to know what other people would do if they were in this situation!!! Anything to get out of the kit car i am currently driving!! Nightmare!!
shark_90
Out of your list, I wouldn't bother paying the extra for an ED30, so it'd be back to the GTi or even better, an upgrade to the S3 for me.
shao_khan
I test drove the GTi and S3 back to back and ended up paying a bit more for the Audi - TBH monthly figures were cheaper from Audi thatn VW anyway for more vlaue of car. I liked the Ed30 and thought it was worth that bit extra, I also likethe look of the Pirelli edition that may be due soon.
RedRobin
Definitely the Ed30 if you liked the GTI you had (assuming it was a Mk5). Best way is to test drive both. But each offers different things apart from performance 'feel'. S3 not 5-door and less load space but good quality interior. S3 body styling a bit bland imo, but some will prefer that. Snoopy
just wanted to know what people would go for if they had to decide on either the mark 5 GTI or the Ltd Edition. Myself if i was buying again for ME and i had to choose between those two i would go for the GTI. My main and really only reason is colour choice, I don't really like the Ed30 in any of its colours, the Black to me looks best but the way people were i live don't see dark coloured cars it would rule it out for me as would the way it shows marks. If i had to buy a GTI from a UK main dealer i would prob go for white i like the way the black and white work together, (why i don't like it on an Ed30). If i was buying an import and its what i would do now personally, i would get a deep blue pearl GTI. Again this is just my personal choice. RedRobin
Sorry, Geoff - I was responding to SK's post. I would choose the Ed30 over the GTI if I was buying now - Simply cos of hotter performance. I'd still want to mod an Ed30 with Millteks, AP brakes, and ARB's. shao_khan
Just saw a White Ed 30 in the Siemens car park in MK while I was over there. Havign seen that there would be no contest - it looked fantastic.
RedRobin
Just for you, SK.... And yes, apparently you can buy black alloys in the UK now - Due to VW receiving lots of demand. I photographed this on Sunday at GTI Inters.
Luck1ng
ED 30 all the way - its no extra cost if your looking for leather, There wont be any ed 30's left in sept 2008 tho, and i dont think they are going to sell the pirelli in the uk
JonnyGTi
I'd go for the ED30 myself. The only things I don't like are the wheels and the extra cost ! These are offset by the things I do like such as more power, chipable engine to 300bhp, colour coded skirts etc., tinted rear lights, Golf ball gearstick, half leather seats..... Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] Sorry, Geoff - I was responding to SK's post. [/ QUOTE ] confused. I do really like all the extras the Edition 30 has especially the interior and engine, but im picky when it comes to colour. If i look out the window and think what a nice colour the car is it makes me like it even more, at the moment theres really non of the colours available in the UK on the GTI i get that feeling with in all weathers. (love the shadow blue in the sun but on dull days its very dark and dull ) Shame they don't do the GTI in SEAT Eclipse blue as i really like that shade. Sealy
I also had the same dilemma (except I've never had GTI before). I plumbed for the ED30 mainly because: 1) I don't like the unpainted rear bumper and side skirts. 2) I was torn between the cloth & leather.... the ED30 has both. 3) The ED30 may hold the price better when I eventually move on. 4) I still haven't seen another ED30 on the road. 5) Extra umphhhh. I must admit that I preferred the 18" Monza's but the ED30 alloys look so much better in the flesh, I haven't seen a picture yet that shows them well, but I was more than pleased when I picked it up from Euro Imports this weekend. If you're thinking of going for the Leather & 18" Monza's the price difference between the GTI & ED30 isn't that much.
marco21
Does anyone know if an option on the Ltd Edition can be the 18" Monzas??
wantmygti
Negative. You get the wheels it comes with. If you want to change to Monza IIS you have to buy them from the parts dept (£££). Same for the black monzas (Rockinghams).
petsy
iirc someone has said that VW UK has relented and you can now get the ed30 with black monza rims...
shao_khan
When I was at VW the other day they denied Rockinghams would be available for factor order in UK.
RedRobin
VW told me at GTI Inters last weekend that they are now available in the UK but as extras. I didn't ask about warranty! They've now made them available in the UK due to demand but who's going to pay for an additional set of alloys when their Ed30 is delivered in the UK on Pescaras!? Snoopy
Still not sure of the black wheels myself. I may consider painting my 18s black when they start to corrode but then again i may not.
TheReflex
Those black monzas are awful, but must be easier to repair than the originals.
benbarrett
Ed30 all the way, painted skirts and bumper are the finishing touch, especially with darker paint. The extra power will eliminate the "I've been here before" feeling and the S3 will only exert you with comparisons because the overall upgrade factor is minimal. IMO the white looks great with the black alloy, but with darker colours it can look like your hub caps have been stolen, except on a Lotus that is...
