Srobbo18 Posted June 28, 2007 Report Share Posted June 28, 2007 hi i just decided to change my oil and oil filter between services as the oil is dark. my car is a 1999 mk4 golf v5, 2.3 petrol 10valve. i had a quick look and i cant find the oil filter on the engine, and the filter i baught is not in the metal case like all the ones i have changed in the past, could some one please give me a idiots guide to changing the filter thank you so much Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
daz60932 Posted June 30, 2007 Report Share Posted June 30, 2007 The oil filter is underneath the engine at the front, theres a black cap with a big moulded nut on it to get it undone(think its 28mm iirc)the filter is inside there, its is a paper element not a metal canister filter. very messy job. (tip: undo the allen key in the middle of the moulded nut on the filter housing cap and let the oil drain from there before undoing the cap completely using the moulded nut) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
