chrisbluebird
OK, ive just bought a mk5 GTI (last week) and some little tosser has pinched the vw centre caps, lucky it was parked against the wall, they managed to get 2 but left 2 on there. They are the adhesive caps and seem to be 56mm... ive tried ebay and they all seem to be 60mm for the adhesive caps, are they the right ones or can you get 56mm? I thought id go for ebay as the dealers usually cost the earth for trivial things such as these. The next ones im gonna no-more nails on so the bastards rip their fingernails off when trying to get at them haha. Any help will be appriciated. thanx
robs1977
It is a full cap which clips in not just an adhesive badge, see item number 180139119652 on Ebay.
PabloPablo
They're a fiver from your dealer. I've had to replace 4 of them - I think they fall off. I'll check the part number tomorrow (I kept the poly wrap they came in knowing I'll need more... )

Tarmac_Terrorist
I've got a Pasat hire car and in the past 6000 miles 3 caps have disappeared. I thought they were being stolen but I parked up in Tesco's the other week and a bloke ran up to me holding a cap claiming that it fell off and rolled across the car park. I notice that a couple of the clip bits from aroung the edge had broken. Looked like the plastic is brittle.
chrisbluebird
surely vw would have realised that the caps they supply are a bit crap, I dont know what to do for the best now... try and get the clipped ones..take the wheels off and replace them all..... or get the stick on ones and add a bit of glue and hope for the best?? could do with the part numbers tho if anyone can help. thanx

chrisbluebird
Right.... Ive got the new centre caps, using the part number that was posted on here, and checking that against the part number quoted by the dealer... got home, drilled one cap and hooked it out and the new caps dont fit... they seem to be about 70mm and the existing cap is 56mm. Phoned the dealer, they said that it is the right cap as thats whats quoted on the system. But it dont fit so it cant be the right one?? The 17" alloy wheel caps seem to have a bigger vw logo whereas the 18" monzas have a smaller logo... how could this be the same cap? Now im really annoyed cos Ive spent £20 on 4 new caps which are no good, and the dealer cant seem to help any more... again, any advice will be greatly appriciated... thanx
JonnyGTi
mmm...very strange....my immediate thought is that your alloys are not genuine VW originals ? Original VW Alloy centre caps clip in with side clips. I'd check the back of the alloys with a torch and look for a BBS No. and VW emblem . chrisbluebird
Well, the problem seems to have been sorted now... I measured the cap that was on there and measured it against different ones they had in the dealers and found that a 2003+ R32 cap fitted perfectly... I know this sounds strange, but im happy now... the wheels now look alright with the new caps, and ive got the gti smile back on my face haha, if anyone wants the part number for the caps then let me know. thanx for everyones input
Snoopy
I have been told in the past early monzaIIs have some slight different to later ones.
robs1977
I've sold hundreds of these caps through corrosion, theft, loss as they fit quite a few of the wheels on the current models but i've never come across this,i would be interested to know the part number of the caps you got that fitted as i can't think of any VW wheel caps which are adhesive and also if you can confirm if your wheels are replica's or not. chrisbluebird
I spoke to the guy who I bought the car off today, i told him about the problem i had and he was just as baffled as me. he also said that hes got the original invoice from when the car was purchased which states the 18" alloys... so unless they changed the wheels for replica ones before delivery or whatever then im still as confused... but like i said before the R32 caps fit perfectly, and they dont look out of place at all so im happy now. the caps that came off were alloy type caps with a sticky back stuck onto plain grey caps, the grey caps had no part number on them either and the sticky badge was a bit mangled after i took it off so i binned it. the caps which were supplied first time round were 70mm, and the caps that fitted were 56mm and are standard on 2003+ R32 models. if i find out now that they are on the invoice and they turn out to be replica i will be well pissed as you can get a set of reps for like 500 quid, whereas a set of oem ones will cost you silly money, if this will devalue the car i dont know, but i bloody hope not! (if anyones interested in the part number of the caps I have fitted: 1J0 601 171 BXF)
