grahamb
Couldn't start the A6 yesterday, as the battery had run flat after standing for a fortnight. Anyway, removed the plastic cover from the bulkhead, which covers the battery and servo compartment just in front of the windscreen, and low and behold, there was about a gallon of water sat in there. I drained it out as best I could using a syphon, and jump started the car and she ran fine. Q) Is there a drain hole in the space between the battery and the servo. nicknick
Drain hole is underneath the battery ...you need to get it cleared asap as any water that can't drain out generally finds it way into the cabin via the pollen filter and from there is knackers the comfort control. Check your carpets aren't wet on the passenger side (front and back I think ) ...
grahamb
Many thanks NickNick. I'll whip the battery off tomorrow lunch time and have a poke around. Glad I found it before the car was driven, as the water would have no doubt found its way in to the car on the first corner. Q) Should water be able to get in to that area in the first place? grahamb
Found both the drain plugs. One is under the battery tray, which requires the battery to be removed in order to reach it. And the other is under the servo, which with a stretch and long fingers, you can poke the silt/mud out and it all drains away. Due to the overnight rain the compartment had filled up again, and was up to the bottom of the battery tray! Just needed some goldfish in there for effect. danksy
I had this on my A6, after some really heavy rain there was about 1/2 cm of water in the rear footwell which had accumulated over a fortnight in the rain. It buggered the Sat nav ECU and comfort ECU too the C5's were quite prone to it
