moggle Posted July 22, 2007 Report Share Posted July 22, 2007 I have a 2005 Touran 2.0TDI which has recently developed a 'whine' from the turbo when it kicks in. Also it appears the turbo is not working all the time even at around 2500rpm. If I put my foot down at this rpm the whine starts for a second it is noticable that the turbo is then working. There are times when the car does not accelerate a quickly as would be expected, and can cause concern when overtaking. Does this sound like there is a problem? Rustynuts Posted July 23, 2007 Report Share Posted July 23, 2007 A friend of mine (registered on here) is a VW tech, and he tells me that there's numerous problems with the 140 tdi engine turbos. Rustynuts Posted July 23, 2007 Report Share Posted July 23, 2007 The whistle of the air moving over the vnt is good, but a whine from bearings etc. isn't Not sure about the ease of swapping, but if you catch it whining before you buy, then the dealership will be changing it for you before you part with hard earned, won't they.
