I had mine in the other day for an airbag fault and they said I needed the ECU update too..

They asked me repeatedly if the car had been chipped (presume that is because it could mess it up).

Having it done when my car has a the drivers side airbag ingition system replaced next week.

Not sure of the exact details!

Mine defo seemed to run with more boost AFTER the software update.

But the car is now dead maybe as a result of it.

Could you not claim it as damaged by the dealers, after the upgrade was done ?

sorry to go off topic but

any news on the engine yet?

they've taken the front end off and replaced some sensors today.

now on "extended road testing" (ragging it prolly as it has a full tank of V Power) to make sure its ok before I get it back. It's all under warranty so no need to blame. Just inconvenienced.

Back on topic...main reason for SW update was to make it more economical apparently but mine went mucho better after it in my view. Never put it on a RR to confirm but it was great fun...till last week.

I wonder if those who think it has upgraded power have DSG?

IF there is an ECU reset, there will often be a DSG reset which will "unlearn" the learnt stuff from your previous driving.

When you then set out again, the throttle settings (i.e. how much petrol for a certain depression of the accelerator peddle) will be different - often resulting in more petrol for the same depression. This makes the car appear to have more boost!

However if you have a manual this isn't an issue!

I can't tell from the above post who has DSG and who has a manual, but this DSG reset is one possible explanation for the different reports 169144-ok.gif

So i just got a letter from my dealer saying by car needs an ECU upgrade, anyone know what it's about? I presume it can wait till the next service?

....Here in the UK, the current VW ECU update being applied at servicing time, is 24K6. It's known to upset a remap (though not intended to) and so it's best to switch to stock for any servicing sessions and get the tuner to sort the remap afterwards. Revo, for example, will support you free of charge in such matters.

Most of these VW ECU updates are equivalent to a computer OS 'x.0.1' update. Nothing to worry about and nothing to get excited about - Just maintenance.

Nope mine's a Manual.

so wont that make the fuel consumption higher?

more gas = quicker to next fill up!

Hmm maybe. I tend to get around 300 miles to a tank. Sometimes less, sometimes a bit more. Depends on how much motorway cruising and "spirited" driving i do. grin.gif

Well put my car into the dealership this AM, just had a call and my car won’t speak to the VW computer, so they need to order a part to make it do so! :S

And the guy that was due to fit the replacement airbag has gone home with a hurt back…. I think my car is angry with me...

Got a GT TDI and to be quite frank, I don't like it very much!- sorry to all the GT TDI owners out there!
