Hi hope someone can help

For some time now, my vw polo 1.4 has been stalling infrequently, generally when changing gear, slowing down, approaching junctions. this has been going on for a bit now, and was easily sorted by just starting the car up whilst moving. But the last couple of days my car will no start back up when its stalled, i have to wait for a few minutes and then it'll start again. any suggestions?

I've got this problem too.

Mine is:

1.4 litre

1996

Mine switches off when i Turn left full lock.

and that it is dead for 5 minutes on the road which is very dangeros of course.

There is no power then all of the sudden is comes back to life.

The stalling is more than likely a dirty/clogged throttle body, remove the air box and then the throttle body, give it a good clean with carb cleaner and refit and let the car run for 2-3 mins before going for a steady drive around the block.

Damunk, Your fault sounds like a serious wiring/relay problem which i would take to an auto electrician as soon as possible

I forgot to mention.

Smoke came out of my steering wheel a week before the car did the stall when i turn left.

the right wind wiper stick burnt out and the smoke came out of the steering wheel while i was driving.

do you think this smoke coming out of the wheel has something to do with the cuttin off of the engine when i do a full lock to the left.

i have been driving the car today and made sure i took a wider line into the bend so i dont have to turn it left to much.

That sounds really serious, dont know if id even drive the car personally. Get it checked out asap, will probably be a wiring short circuit and my guess is something to do with the ignition barrel, if a wire from it s burning out/short circuiting then that could cause the car to cut out. when the wheel is turned the motion of the car could be causing the wire to short and burn. Get it checked out, it sounds dangerous
