sayerbloke
I'm sure you've seen the government's e-Petition website. Someone set one up calling for motorbikes to be banned outright. It has over 500 signatures already but... well... when you read the names of the people who have signed it, you realise maybe he doesn't have as much support as it'd first seem Work Warning for the language Check the current signatories
S3Rob
Can't beleive the official Downing Street site doesn't have a swear filter!! Some of those are classic
D1MAC
but can only see 49 names. Maybe they've had a sweep up (but there's still one or two on there & I doubt Soichiro Honda is against it somehow )
sayerbloke
Yep, they've cleared approx. 500 signatures off the list. Every single "bad" word you can think of was on there earlier, hence Rob mentioning the lack of a swear filter!
Soulboy
I read it before it was filtered. Although it was funny, it was the only petition (out of dozens) I could find with any swearing and abuse on it. And just about every post on that petition was. Question is, what sort of message does that send to the Gov.t from the pro bike community? It has probably done more damage to bikers than the original poster could have ever hoped for. They just came across as aggressive thugs.

This is just a gimmick to 'reach out' to the electorate. Do you remember when the road tolls petition was on there. Over 1 million signatures and it achieved nothing other than an email from Blair explaining why the government were right.
garcon magnifique
I think there's still a petition on there against ID cards. These people are complaining about the amount of data the government holds on them. So how do they complain? By putting their names and addresses in a big list and giving it to the government... Cannot see this doing any damage to the bikers. The petition is a joke, hence it is being treated as such. The arguement that 'if bikes were invented today, they would be banned' holds no strength. This could apply to alcohol and smoking - possibly even cars. Ian

And, as to: "Unprotected bodies, travelling at legal speeds up to 70mph, on a 2-wheeled vehicle which can be upset by a wet manhole - any official would reject this idea out of hand."? -->Ban walking anywhere near a roadway. What a softie...glad to see they're not exclusive to my neck of the woods...
m4ttm4son
Rhubarb, if discovered now would not pass food health and safety standards since much of the plant is toxic. Or so I've heard
