Evobaz
Hi folks, my aircon on my 2000 Passat Tdi was working fine until today. Now it seems like the fan is doing nothing. When I switch the aircon/heater off then switch it on again I can hear the engine noise change slightly as if the aircon is trying to work but there is no air blowing from the vents. I have recently heard a "ticking" noise like a dodgy relay coming from behind the dash (it sounds as though its coming from the right hand side of the steering wheel). Is this likely to be the cause of the fault? I also jump started my girlfriends car with the Passat today, the aircon was working fine before this and is not working after. Am I likely to have blown a fuse etc when jump starting the other car? Any advice would be appreciated. Baz
Evobaz
Anyone help me out here? These aircon has been working again recently but only today it has stopped again. The relay noise from behind the dash has also been happening more often recently. It sounds like its coming from behide the switch for the lights. Is there a relay in here which controls the aircon? If so how easy is it to remove / replace?
Evobaz
Right folks, can anyone tell me which of these relays controls the blower for the heater/aircon? Do the relays just pull out? I'm hoping I may be able to change it by sticking my hand through the hole below the fuse box rather than removing the steering wheel cowling etc. I'l still having intermittant problems with this and want it fixed before the cold/wet weather arrives. mb
Can't help much but if you put your hand on the relays you will feel which one is clicking. You can also remove the cover from the relay & clean the contacts on many of them so this may provide a fix/determine if the relay is causing the problem. Have you tried getting someone to vagcom the car as the climatronic may be registering faults, also you can get additional info on the climatronic display (search google for cliamtronic hidden menu or similar) which might help ? Evobaz
Cheers for the reply. I'll try feeling the relays next time its clicking. I don't know anyone in my area with vagcom (central scotland). I'll have a look on google for the climatronic hidden menu thing. Thanks again. Tobes49
Is there no air coming from the vents? Sounds like the fan has got a dead spot on the motor.
Evobaz
There is no air coming from the vents. It was working intermitantly for a while but now it won't work at all. When I switch it on I can hear the relay energise but the fan wont blow. I have checked the fuse in the fuse box and it seems fine.
Tobes49
Sounds like you need a new fan, Take the passenger glove box out and test for a power and earth to the fan unit. GSF do the fans for about £
Evobaz
Took the fan (blower motor) out and fitted new brushes that I got from a local motor factors and its working again. I have ordered the correct brushes from anglocarbon and will fit them when they arrive...
Evobaz
new brushes available on ebay. £15 to fix, far better than £100 for a fan from GSF or £250+VAT from VW (and thats just supplying the fan - NOT FITTING IT!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...O:IT&ih=
