Hi, i have a w reg passat 1.9 tdi pd which loses power when i go up hills. i have already replaced the air flow meter and it was ok for a couple of weeks but now problem is back. its strange though that when the loss of power occurs if i stop the car and restart the engine its ok. have been reading some of the posts and am not sure what to look at or check ( was thinking of replacing the pressure solenoid on the bulkhead )should i?. i have a small amount of knowledge about my passat but not much. can anyone help.

try and get the fault codes pulled by someone with a vag-com lead and software, that'll tell you exactly why the car went into limp mode.

Usually it'll be caused by the requested air pressure not matching the measured air pressure between the turbo and the inlet manifold.

Usual causes include:

faulty N75 valve (controls the vacuum or pressure to the turbo control)

Split or leaking vacuum or pressure hose between turbo, n75 and vacuum system

Split or leaking air intake piping

Sticky VNT mechanism in the turbo, or faulty wastegate (depends on the type of turbo you have)

The pressure solenoid that is relevant is close to the turbo at the front of the engine. The solenoid at the rear of the engine controls the exhaust gas recirculation system and is not relevant to this problem (usually)
