Hello, I get whines, gurgles & knocks of all pitches some mornings quite often. I have been told by 3 Audi main dealers 1 local 'tame' mechanic and an ex-police mechanic that these are the noises of chains and oil & tappets or something all heard from inbetween the firewall (your knees) and the V8! I still believe it should be quieter than this but I came from a sound insulated S8 so what do I know! As long as it still shifts like the proverbial you should be ok.... (fingers crossed etc.)

Yellow or Red work! But as a photochop person I can't see your callipers in your photos. A bit more detail and the forgery may just take place.....

This is totally criminal!! You advised them on how to move the vehicle (if need be) and they blatantly ignored you. Result: Criminal damage has been performed. If it is their property let them wreck it, but at the end of the day it is still yours!!!!!!!!!! you have several legs to stand on after this act of severe F_ckwitism!!!

Cheers for that excellent advice. I took it to my local tame garage and managed to demonstrate the noise. They told me to monitor it for now. Couldn't hear it today due to loud stereo and running away from a very, very fast V8 Range Rover. (Which turned out to be 4 suits from the royal protection squad chasing me!!!!) Anyway, when your diff went did you get a regular vibration when driving on a silky smooth roads? ..or is something else about to fall off??

I'm not sure if this will make things clearer but, I coasted down a hill, the gear whine occured, (I tried all the gears too) I then put it in Neutral and silence! So I feel it is engine breaking related. Does this make sense? Cheers again...

It only occurs on the move. Thottle pedal pushed and all sounds normal as well as zooming about quickly, but lift off the gas and 'coast' thats when the noise appears. Since I've had the beast I have had an oil transplant, airfilter transplant but not an ATF transplant, oh and the tyres are all fine. I'm sure it's something to do with the pulleys and chains or diff or maybe an auto box, bound to be expensive.....what ever it is it makes such a strange alarming whining noise, summit ain't right!! Hello peeps I have returned with a small/strange question concerning my new (half S8) purchase. All of a sudden I have a strange noise coming from somewhere deep in the engine. Its sounds like something free wheeling!! With the throttle applied normal engine noises but as soon as I lift off there is this free wheeling spinning noise. The only similar comparison I can make is the noise made by fast reversing, that kind of whine... Could it be a clutch type noise or auto equivalent or is something about to go BOOM??????

With the gas applied normal engine noises but as soon as I lift off there is this free wheeling spinning noise. The only similar comparison I can make is the noise made by fast reversing, that kind of whine... I got quotes ranging from £860 to £540 for my S4 Cab!!! Got nowhere with the big firms so I spoke to a 'human' at NFU Mutual and got a very good price with a tiny excess etc...

The Michael Jackson song "Beat it", but the 'Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine' version. I can explain. I copied a random bunch of Mp3s onto my SD card and this one sneaked on. I was attempting to get rid of it when the stereo crashed!!!

Loads of tourists about, loads of traffic and my Mp3 part of the Audi stereo decides to Freeze/crash on a really sh1t song!!! Not one button would respond, shutting off the engine, key out, then re-start did nothing!! People looking a lot now!!! Found a secluded lay-by and found the page which tells you how to reset the system. Press and hold the on/off button.............. for ages!!(I did this earlier but obviously not for long enough) It works now!! I also read in the manual the calm disclaimer about crashes may occur due to the technology. I've learnt something today. Not to carry sh1t music when the Audi goes t1ts up!!!!
