  1. Security researchers will highlight vulnerabilities in keyless entry systems that impact on the protection against theft of millions of cars at a conference tomorrow. The researchers, led by University of Birmingham computer scientist Flavio Garcia alongside colleagues from German engineering firm Kasper & Oswald, said they'd found that it was possible to clone a VW Group remote control after eavesdropping on a signal. The hack means its possible for thieves to unlock cars even if the owners have locked them. Worse yet, almost every vehicle the Volkswagen group has sold for the last 20 years – including cars badged under the Audi and Skoda brands – are potentially vulnerable, say the researchers. The problem stems from VW’s reliance on a “few, global master keys”. More: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/08/11/car_lock_hack/
  2. Hi everyone! I'd like some help please. The key fob is not working for the Polo anymore (although it was fine yesterday). It won't unlock the doors remotely or start the ignition. The fob battery is fine as the fob still lights up (and so does the 2nd key I have). I can open the door manually by turning the key, so I can get inside the car. But I can't unlock all the doors and when I turn the ignition, the key turns and nothing happens. No dashboard, no engine, just nothing. I've checked the car's manual and looked online, but can't find a solution. I suspect I've simply triggered an engine immobilisation or SafeLock feature, but following steps in the car manual to deactivate these does not work. There is also no indicator light on my dashboard to tell me either of those 2 things are active (which apparently should happen even when the ignition is off). 3. First day of driving my first car, I was parked up with my car idling and I noticed in my mirror that my car was emitting a lot of fumes (bareing in mind it was warm out). I started to notice and strong smell of petrol, took no notice of it initially. Then my exhaust emissions warning light came on and my car began to struggle to stay on. I just turned the engine off and thought nothing of it. When I went to pull off, I noticed the car was being very sluggish and struggling to provide any power, I began to go up a steep hill and it became really apparent that something was wrong. The car hardly made it up the hill, was very jolty and the power felt like it kept coming on then cutting off. I pulled up once I made it up the hill and the warning light began to flash. The car continued to struggle to stay alive so I just turned it off and waited. I let the engine cool down, but no luck. Would really appreciate if someone could please advice what maybe wrong with my car. And the appox cost of what the repairs maybe. I only brought the car today, which has left me with little money as you can imagine. It was working brilliant until this happened. Thanks for reading Regards, Shane

  5. Hi folks, I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help. My Passat has a leak - it is filling up with water on the driver side. The driver mat is completely soaked. It is currently limited to just that area only. I have taken it to local garage and also the VW dealer - both couldn't find the cause of the leak. VW has quoted me an enormous sum to investigate without any guarantees. Can anyone please help? Its the newer model (being 2005 reg). Has anyone come across this problem before. I have seen all sorts of references made to coolant & pollen filetrs etc, but most of them are for leaks around the passenger side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

  8. Front right of car, 'Jangling', low-medium volume, noticed at low speeds when car drawing up to lights or after speed hump, especially when clutch depressed. Has been around for last 3-4 months without warning lights appearing, or combustion of car!, perhaps getting a little louder if anything.Oh yeah its also really annoying. Local dealer has seen the car 4 times, steering rack replaced under warranty but no change in noise. Last visit went for a ride with technician who seemed pretty sure it was suspension bushes, but when car picked up after 'extensive road tests' this was discounted. They have sent a diss (?) notice to VW australia for further diagnosis. What do you reckon? Advice wanted before they begin to randomly replace engine components.
