Riz
Right, had the astra for a while and now im having irresistable feelings to buy a 2001 original rover mini that ive seen..... cheaper to run than the astra and ive already got a buyer for my car..... obviously the mini is no performace car but it has "soul" something which the astra lack.... Ive seen a mint 2001 classic mini forsale which is one of the last 500 mode.... done about 25k miles and its totally standard...... So what do you folks think..... lost it completely or a wise move? What about servicing and reliability? Anybody got any pointers....... Riz
Ari
I think they're great little cars but I wouldn't want to travel a long way in one and I wouldn't want to be involved in an accident in one. (Actually I wouldn't want to be involved in an accident in any car, but you know wht I mean).

Is there anybody in the world which hates the classic mini? it seems everbody loves them!!! Riz
Teacake
Just about the most fun it's possible to have on four wheels. I'm not sure why you say the Mini is no performance car. Obviously you're not going to be left with much acceleration in hand at 100mph on the motorway, but driving one soon teaches you that there's more to performance than bhp. You'll need to keep a Mini fettled, but they're mechanically simple, all parts are available and dirt cheap, and there's no shortage of performance mods should you feel the need for more oomph. My Mini has (I should say had, it hasn't run for a while) about 140bhp/tonne, which is enough for me. On the original 145 section 10" tyres it used to spin its wheels all the way up through first, second and third.

Riz [/ QUOTE ] Sound system... hmmm... if a decent stereo is high on your list of priorities then a Mini might not be the right car for you. You won't be able to hear it properly. On the other hand, if it's a louuud sound system, you might be alright. Just reminded me of a friend who couldn't understand why newer Minis have a rev counter: "Why do you need a rev counter, can't you hear how fast it's going?" Riz
Woohooooo hopefully going down to buy it this sat..... and my brother is hopefully buying one tomorrow... Well I was thinking of a cd headunit with mp3 playback and good speakers and sub.... big bass might be groovy but surely it would rattle the car to bits???
