  2. Even if someone was to do it with VAG-COM it would take all of about 3 mins max. Its really easy to code with the new version of VAG-COM. There might be someone near you with VAG-COM - Maybe post in the VAG-COM section to see if anyone can help you out. JD

  4. [ QUOTE ] So what you're suggesting is that having paid a load of money to the dealer to apply Lifeshine he then scrapes it all off. Then he puts it back on? I'm obviously missing something here... [/ QUOTE ] I'm saying if it were "me”, I would remove the first coat of AG LS and then start from scratch. You can buy the exact same kit the dealer uses on ebay for less then £20 and this kit will cover at least 3 medium size cars. After reading posts on other forums and speaking with friends who have had this done, they have found whoever applied the AG LS seemed to have left their car with some new car “swirls”. So they are sealing the swirls onto the car By removing the first coat this will allow you to layer more than one coat with no imperfections in-between. Just me two cents worth JD
  5. I think applying 2 coats with a 6 week gap might not be a good idea. If it were me I would try and remove the first cost of AG LS. I would clay the whole car, to make sure the car surface is properly cleaned. Also if you can remove any swirls in the paint. After the paint is properly cleansed then I would apply the first coat of AG LS. Then leave it one day to full cure preferably inside (eg: garage or car cover). Next I would quickly run over the car with some QD to take any dust etc off the car before applying a second coat of LS. I have applied two coats of AG LS to the front wing of a friend’s car .This is to test the durability of it against a good polish/sealant/wax combination. So far they are acting about the same , but it has only been a couple of weeks. Cheers JD

    B-Pillars of woe

Hey Paddy, Yeah I think I have some of that stuff somewhere, so will give it a try. Yeah I think you are right, as it looks to be unavoidable. I have been so careful washing the car to make sure I don’t get any swirls in the paint , but I think these parts look to be unavoidable Yeah am keeping well - will drop you a PM as not to hijack this thread JD.

    B-Pillars of woe

I have the same problem with my GTi I have used some polish to fill the light swirls , but that doesn't last long. I might attack it at the weekend with some light cutting polish and see how I get on. JD
  8. Okay first problem will be that if you are trying to get rid of swirls from the Audi or Porsche paint, it will take longer. Audi/Porsche paint is notoriously hard paint and very hard to remove swirls from with a PC quickly. That’s not to say impossible, it will just take you a little longer. So first off you want to start with the least aggressive combination to see what that will remove. So I would start with the SFX2 Pad (White pad) and Sonus Enhance SFX2 Polish. First I find it best to spritz the pad lightly with some Detailing spray. Just a little spray as not to make the pad too wet. Then you need to apply some polish to the pad. I usually put two thin lines of polish across the pad (each crossing each other). As you will be testing first , I would start on the bonnet and put a small strip of masking tape(low tack) down some part of the bonnet. Best to apply the polish to only one side of the tap as this will make it easier to make a comparison and will show you if the combination is working or not. Now to start the polishing I find it best to dab or rub the pad over the paint. This just spreads out the polish. Now start to spread it evenly on speed 3 with no pressure on the head of the PC. Next move up to speed 5 with using a little pressure.(just enough should let the head of the PC still move) Here you need to be moving the PC at about 1” to 2” per second. This should be done for 2 full passes. Then move onto Speed 6 with the first pass with some pressure on the head going at about 1” to 2” per second again. Then make a second pass with no pressure with the same movement. Here the polish should have turned to a translucent finish .Now it should be ready to just wipe off with a clean micro fibre towel. Next remove the strip of tape you put on the bonnet. Here you will be able to see the difference between where you have just polished and they way the paint currently is. This will be a guide if you think you have removed enough of the swirls. If you feel not enough have been removed you can re-do the panel using the process above. If this makes no difference and you feel you want to remove more of the swirls, then you will need to move to a more aggressive combination. Here you will complete the above process, but this time using the SFX 1 Pad (Yellow Pad) with some Sonus Restore SFX1 polish. This should cut into the swirls a bit more and remove more swirls than SFX2. If you find this is removing all the swirls , then its time to complete you car with the combination. First off I’d mask up any plastic/rubber parts on the car (ie: where you are going to polish -parts which touches plastics or rubber) For the hard to reach areas you can use a 4” pad instead. If you are a bit worried about using it , you could try calling to your local scrap yard to see if you can get an old Audi bonet or wing to test on first. For sealing/waxing (ie: Klasse AIO or Klasse SG) , best to use the blue pad to spread the polish. I find it best to start on speed 1 for 2 passes , then move upto speed 5 or 6 for 2 passes with no pressure. This should be enough and will leave you with just to remove the residue when it dries. As the above is a very quick and rough guide , here are some really good forums/sites to have a look at also: www.detailingworld.co.uk www.bettercarcare.com Let me know if you have any questions Cheers JD
  9. When using a PC the speed depends on what you are trying to do with it. Eg: spreading a wax/polish can be applied with 2 passes on speed three etc. But taking out swirls is a different story. Let me know what you are trying to do and i should be able to point you in the right direction. Also let me know what pads you have for your PC. Cheers JD

  16. Select] [17 - Instruments] [Recode - 07] Write down the existing coding for future reference. Look at the third and fourth digits in the coding (00??x0x). Add the values for the options together and put them in the third and fourth digit location to get the correct coding. 00 - No available equipment +01 - Brakepad wear sensor warning active +02 - Seatbelt warning active +04 - Washer fluid level warning active +16 - Sedan (Jetta) So, if your stock Soft Coding is 0023203 and you want to remove the seatbelt chime, put in a new value of 0021203. 17. Here ya go First go into Control Module 16 - Steering Wheel. Then you need to click on Recode 07. Here you need to change the 4th digit as follows to whichever matches your car set-up. (Mine is set to 4 - with on board computer (MFA), with Tempomat (GRA) xxx?x: MFA/GRA 0 - without on board computer (MFA), without Tempomat (GRA) 1 - on board computer (MFA), without Tempomat (GRA) 2 - without on board computer (MFA), with Tempomat (GRA) 3 - with spacer distance regulation (planned) 4 - with on board computer (MFA), with Tempomat (GRA) 5 - On board computer (MFA) with spacer distance regulation (planned) Next you then need to go into Control Module 01 – Engine. Then you need to click on Recode 07. Here you need to change byte 06 from 00 to 01. Byte 06: 00 - without speed control governor (GRA) 01 - with speed control governor (GRA) (From what I remember you need to turn the ignition on, but only as far as when the electrics are active and the engine is turned off. Otherwise when you try and save this to the ECU it won’t take when the engine on.) Any questions just ask JD

  25. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] No probs. I need to get my Wiper Motor replaced also and am wondering if they can replace it on the spot or will I need to leave it with them for the day? [/ QUOTE ] My rear wiper stopped working this afternoon, I'd been in the rain for about an hour but I'd used the rear wiper maybe 5 times, which I was a tad annoyed about as it was pissing it down and those white vans were very near! Anyway I left the car for about 20 minutes and when I returned it was fine... had it over heated, surely not? Any ideas? should I get VW to take a look or wait to see if it happens again? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah there is a known issue with the rear wipers not working on correctly on some MKV's. If you do have the problem you can turn off the car and turn it on again and it should work. The long term fix is to have the motor replaced under warranty. I've mine booked in next week. JD
