  2. Dear All Was the B6 2.0 petrol an FSI unit? I thought it was a 130PS non-FSI engine but a friend is looking for one and many are advertised as 150PS FSI engines; I thought the latter was exclusive to the A3 being a transverse unit. I'm 100% sure this engine is 130bhp, but is it FSI? Many have FSI badges on but until yesterday I was 100% sure they weren't. If you configure a B7 Avant it indicates the 2.0 130PS unit is not an FSI, which confuses me even more If anyone knows for sure, I would be grateful.

CVT is more efficient than a traditional auto and is able to give you torque and power as required instantly. However, there is no denying the constant engine note is a little off putting.

Some nice leather options as occasionally yuou see them come up with Control pack as well as the leather - so matching steering wheel, gear knob, etc. [/ QUOTE ] I'd drive a few models first to see what you like and don't like - for me the Sport is way, way too hard riding and I know a couple of people on the A2 owners club have tried all sorts of tyre and wheel combinations to make it better. It seems to be the suspension rather than the wheels at fault because the SE model on the 17" Sport wheels are still acceptable. My friend has a 'Special Edition' run-out model and has replaced the standard 15's with aftermarket 17's and the ride is fine. The most important point is any A2 is a great A2! For me, I tried the 1.4 petrol and found it's low-rev lethargy borderline dangerous but once up to 3000+ rpm it is fine and at 80+ on the motorway it's rather pleasent. I prefer the TDI as I like torque and the 3-pot engine is characterful in it's tone but some might just say it's noisy - another friend has an S4 and commented on the great noise my engine made so it can't be bad The TDI 90 is a shade quicker but not vastly - my cousin has one (the Sport) and it's a little more torquey and punchy but nothing that a remap on the 75 won't sort out (the 90 can be remapped to 116bhp!, the 75 to about 100bhp). I have never driven or been in an FSI so can only comment from what other people have said. Some find the power delivery 'staged' - that is below 3000rpm it's like the 1.4 petrol (see my comments above) but at 3000rpm it almost feels like a switch is flicked and it's really punchy. This is apparently a common trait of early FSI's in general. £7K will get you a '52' plate Audi approved TDI 75 SE or Sport; it will also get an '03' FSI SE or Sport. £8K will get you towards an '53' TDI 75 SE or Sport or '04' FSI SE or Sport. You'll obviously get more private. I love my can and never want to part with it - you will find cars with extras out there but the most important bit is that an A2 is a great base product regardless of the bits. The only options mine had from factory were climate control (contrary to popular belief it was an option on later models but about 90% have it) and the bench seat (three rear seats on a single bench rather than two seats with a 50/50 split). There are plenty of mods out there such as heated mirrors, cruise control etc., I have cruise on mine fitted by a bloke in the owners club for £200. As for faults, the ARB has already been explained but the petrol ones seem to suffer more than the diesels with engine faults mainly around coils (FSI) and engine management (both). Early TDI's did have faults on the turbo's but this won't be an issue on cars in your budget. The dipped-beam headlights are lousy but I've resolved that with a set of Osram Silbverstars which take 10 minutes to fit.   5. It's a side effect of pushing more fuel into the cylinders than can be combusted, i.e. giving it too much of the berries. The result is that the excess is lobbed out of the exhaust. Petrols do it too but it's such a fine haze you can't see it with the naked eye.

If you use the torque benefits of the remap more (i.e. less changing down to accelerate etc.) you will get better economy than before. If it's a license to drive like your underpants are coated in Raljex, then economy will take a hit...
  7. Dunno what you mean about more room - the boot is smaller than the A2 and the rear space is the same, all-be-it wider in the Sportback. Had one as a courtesy car the other week (2.0T FSI S-Line S-Tronic) and it was really nice, much more so than the A4, but there 'aint no additional space in them

[/ QUOTE ] Yes and No... The first two years are manufacturers warranty. Due to the recent changes in European law you can get the service done anywhere to Audi spec and your warranty is still valid. This law, however, affects manufacturers and not suppliers Accordingly, the 3rd year of warranty is provided by the Audi dealer network. They (as suppliers) are not covered by this law and can therefore insist on a full Audi SH to honour the warranty. Without a full Audi SH they may refuse any warranty claim you submit. Not many people seem to be clear on this distinction in the law, but put simply, if you want a 3rd year warranty then get the service done by Audi

[/ QUOTE ] Make sure 'Econ' isn't selected (i.e. make sure the light is extinguished). Selecting Econ turns the chiller off during the summer and the auxilliary heater off during the winter. Just set it up as you would on a hot day

[/ QUOTE ] Indeed - a diesel engine is more efficient than a petrol so there is less energy lost as heat. Accordingly, it takes longer to warm through. Audi diesels have the auxilliary heater (electric or diesel depending on the age of your car) so the cabin should get toasty within about 3 minutes. Perhaps your temperature on the climate is set quite high? Mine is at 22C and the fan slows down after about 5 minutes on a 0C day like this morning (I was out doing the airport run at 5am, mind )
