  1. Anyone clued up on Staff car parks and the law etc? Basically where I work we have two car parks for the staff. One is a multi-story type where passes are allocated to female staff and management. The rest must park in an allocated area off an open car park, basically through a tunnel then out of public view behind a dodgy hotel. Basic concerns are, apart from stuff being thrown out of windows onto the staff cars is theft and vandalism. Now as you can imagine the company takes no responsibility for our property, but also says in the same sentance we must park there. Its costing staff a fortune in repairs after thefts etc. I'd ordinarily park in the multi-story, and pay, but after forking out £198 in three weeks i'm a bit Anyone know where the rules stand regarding responsibility should all next week when I have to park my car there overnight something happens?
  2. Yeah the Insurance would ordinarily pick up the bill, but i'm paying for it. Over £100 a mile? i don't think so....
  3. According to the invoice the extra money was for storage in a forensic bay, putting car on skates, recovery on a low transporter and an additional member of staff. As far as the law is concerned, they can make additional costs as long as they are justified and accounted for, such as if the car was burt out or upside down. My car was parked by the roadside. Storage in a foresnic bay is included in the £105 Police charge, I think a car going on skates is basic vehicle recovery really, and they have a fleet of low transporters. As for the additional member of staff...why?
  4. i removed the car within the inclusive 24 hours. £434 was dreamt up by them really.
  5. Didn't got through the insurance, i'd have a silly premium next year, and the claim would have put the car on the HPI register as a stolen recovered.
  6. I belive the charge agreed by the Government/Police is £105 should your car need recovering by them. This could be down to having no tax through to recovery after theft when they find your car. As some may know I was in the position where the Police recovered my car three weeks ago after theft, by a third party company to their premises. After the car was fingerprinted, I could go and pick it up. I was presented with two invoices, and the attitude of "no pay-no car" and at the time thought this was the normal routine in this instance. One invoice for £105, one invoice for £434 for having to use skates, additional member of staff and storage in a forensic bay (even thought the first 24 hours storage is included in the £105 statutory charge) Total cost for recovery 15 miles? £539!!! Is this out of order? Problem is who do I make a complaint to?
  7. I'll be probably going back to the 'Ring soon but on another trip i went in another car. I noticed that the ramps are pretty aggresive and i don't think my Cayman could handle them. This was looking at the Norfolk line set upDover Dunkurke, this time its P&O Hull Zeebrugge. Anyone know if i'll get it on ok, or can you ask for the middle deck without any crazy ramps?
  8. [ QUOTE ] You should ask Oli H about this, his car (MKV GTi) was stolen and recovered and as far as i know he refused to take it back, but may be wrong. I can PM him if you like? Dave PS my sincere condolences for the loss of your mother. [/ QUOTE ] Its all sorted now, thanks anyway though!
  9. [ QUOTE ] Good stuff Gary. It's getting better. However, I forgot to say in my earlier posts: I'm sorry for the loss of your mother. Thoughts are with you. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks mate, and thanks for the advice too! What was your username over on uk-mkivs.net?
  10. The police have my other key as evidence against the scumbag who they arrested. I've asked the Porsche dealers to sort me another as a spare for the time being, it takes 5 days to order from the chassis no, they couldn't have duplicated it anyway plus everything has been re-coded too. I've asked them to do a geo on the suspension and ajust if necessary and clean it up (which will be free)and report on any other issues. Its luckily undamaged- they put it on a ramp so i could have a look and even underneath is totally scuff free etc so the insurance claim is cancelled- no dodgy quote next year....
  11. So, just to confirm... If I don't make a claim the car will not be recorded as a stolen recovered But if I make a claim for recovery fees and the small repairs it will then be recorded as a stolen recovered, or is that only if it was involved in a atotla loss claim. I can't get a specific answer off my insurance company regarding this!
  12. [ QUOTE ] But if you go through the insurers you end up with a car which will be worth a lot less due to the marker on it. If you stand to lose £5k on the value car because of this, then in effect you'd save money by forking out anywhere up to that amount out of your own pocket. Rough example: <ul type="square"> [*]tow in charge - £540 [*]brakes - £1000 [*]locks & keys / minor paintwork damage - £800 adds up to less than £2500. Your insurers pay this, but you pay (example) increased premiums and loss of no claims for the next few years, and it costs you £1500 as a result. Now add to that the reduced value of the car (eg £5000) and your claim costs you about £6500. But cover the first 3 items yourself and it's now £2300, with no insurance hike or no claims lost, and crucially, no stolen recovered marker to knock £5000 off the value. You're actually saving over £4000. Of course this is only an example, and figures will depend on your circumstances but you get the idea. [/ QUOTE ] I'm with you on this. Balls!
  13. uk-mkivs! yep its me! I'll have to go through my insurers, as the £250 excess will have to cover a £540 recovery bill already! A set of brakes is £1000 and thats before its been inspected! So if a claim is completed it'll be a stolen recovered...damn.
  14. Thanks! The questions are a bit generic, and not 100% porsche based hence why I chose to put it in a general forum.
  15. Thanks. I'm concerned about the future value and future problems with it, as well as ensuring its all repaired properly. I've had it three months, it was as good as brand new....gutted to say the least.
