My A6 had the same problem, £20 hazard switch fixed it.

The handbooks for my Massey Ferguson tractors tell you to fully load the engine from new. Not revving, not lugging, just wide open throttle at peak torque. It makes a huge improvement to lifetime power, ring sealing is indeed very important.

Curious. I have exactly the same problem with my A6 Allroad. It's booked in at the main stealer on monday for it's 80k service, inc cambelt change (gulp), so they are going to check it at the same time. I'll report back.
