Hoping that someone can help. Car is a Golf GTI 2.0 P reg.
It intermittently cuts out, which I know makes it hard for a garage to diagnose. It's been run through diagnostic machines with no faults found.
It starts fine, first time. However, as soon as I put my foot on the clutch the revs drop right down and it sometimes cuts out (50/50). It's only if I'm slowing down, so if I drop from 3rd to 2nd this sometimes happens. When it does, the car locks up and I cannot steer (not good on roundabouts), although as soon as I turn the ignition it starts fine, so it hasn't been dangerous.
Because of the nature of the problem it's usually at roundabouts or junctions and I feel like I can't drive probably, as I'm permanently having to keep an eye on the revs and make sure I brake, accelerate, brake etc to stop it cutting out.
So to summarise it cuts out when:
Pressing clutch to change gear DOWN
Coming to a stop
Doesn't judder like it's stalling
Almost silent cutting out
Starts fine every time in the morning or after cutting out
Please can someone help. The garage have no clue and I cannot afford to fix too many things out of guesswork.
I want to sell the car, but don't want to sell it on doing this.
Thanks
Liz
