  1. Hi My boot lock recently gave up on me and so I followed the basic guide on here and stipped the thing out to have a look and a good clean, I couldnt see anything wrong with the mechanism on it so have put it all back together and yet it still wont work. It is central locking and when i press the button and the C/l activates it moves the correct section on the back of the barrel but does not seem to move the catch part to the handle position so i can use the handle. After many hours of messing and stripping parts of scrappy golfs it still wont work. My only conclusion is I need a new boot lock but I cant find one anywhere, check ebay and all sorts. Can anybody help or give me advice. Thanks
  2. in comparison to the same Seat Leon is it about the same, the whistle is normall, it the grumble at low revs, untill it hits bout 2700-3000 rpm that worries me, Im told it could be a bearing but not to sure!
  3. Hi i need some help. I bought a Golf Mk4 GT TDI 150bhp and have had nothing but problems with it. Starting to really dent my view on the so called indestructible VW's. anyways apart from both windows breaking within a week an fixed at a cost of £80 I now have three other rather urgent problems 1) My Aircon does not seem to be working, i had it re gassed recently and the guy said that the compressor is not kicking it. the cost of a compressor is alot so i want to eliminate all other options first, can any suggest some basic checks i can do to see if it is the compressor?? 2) My Turbo has a loud Whistle/growl at around 1500 rpm= 2500/3000 rpm at which point it quietens off. I am told it is meant to whistle some but I find it can be heard in the car even with the radio on an if the window is down is is very noisy! Is this normal or is there anything I can check to see if it could be an issue with the Turbo or the surround pipes 3) My boot lock has failed, The central locking seem to be working but the handle is not engaging, more problematic is a failed break in attempted has left my key lock useless, On previous car i could take the inside panel off and manually open the boot catch from the inside, I cant seem to however do this, Can anyone help in getting my boot open, I need to know if there are any ways to get it open before I drill the lock out! Any help on any of these issues is massively helpful Thanks

  5. ill do that! what area of leicester? it due in for a service and mot soon so going get them have a proper look. i had a rough 0-60 time on it, obviously not precise but i got it timed at around 8.5secs, official figures are 8.2. just dont want it to **** up again. what can ya uprate the turbos to on these? and is it worth it?
  6. I havent checked anything at all yet. I am a fair novice in terms of turbo so not sure what to look for!! It was refurbished by a company in Birmingham. I will ask the garage which arranged it to supply me with the name of the place. It did have a slight whistle before but then i think i bought it with a faulty turbo which is why i am not sure if it is meant to whistle or not. On changing gear it also has a 'hissing' noise as if it is releasing all the pressure, again im told this is normal!! If driven hard the car does not return anything like decent MPG, it starts to drop to the low 30's high 20's which im told is unusual for GT TDI. What diaognostic equipement can be used to test he boost? unfortunatley i am learning as i go along so any and all help is welcome. Many thanks Are there any generic issues it could be or are we talking issues with the Turbo!
  7. Hi I have a VW Golf, 2002, GTTDI 150BHP model with 102,000miles on the clock. The turbo recently went and so I had it refurbished and put back on, however I have noticed that it is slightly sluggish and also it 'whistles' alot under power. It also recently broke the inlet pipe under power so i have now had to replace that. Fuel consumption is around 5-10mpg less than it used to run. I have had it looked at by my local VW garage and they said all golfs whistle and that there 'seems' to be no issue with it. I however dont think VW would make a car to whistle so loud it is noticable to the driver. Does anyone have any idea of possible problems which the VW dealership cant be bother to think of or is it just me being paranoid! Any and all suggestions would be helpful. I love the motor but cant afford to keep replacing bits on it!! I bought it for the renowned 'reliability' of VW!!
