  1. Ok maybe kick is too stronger word but as I've said all along it used to be quite rapid in the first 3 gears and especially in first and second I seem to remember it starting to get a bit frisky around 3 grand now the power delivery seems to be more linear. As for testing it against a similar car? No I haven't tried that but I did have trouble keeping up with a 1.9tdi.

Well after a lot of trouble I did get a new MAF although now that it's fitted I'm still not sure the cars back to it's former glory, could the ECU settings need reconfiguring?
  3. Ok next instalment coming up. I fitted the Maf to my Passat and took it for a blat, seemed much better and of course after spending 300 sovs that's what I wanted to believe. Trouble is now I'm not so sure, acceleration is still not great and out dragging other cars is a bit of a problem and there's no kick felt when (if?) the turbo kicks in. It has been suggested that the paramiters on the ECU may need resetting, any thoughts?
  4. It was the parts dep, a guy name of Tony.

    What next?

Now I've got my MAF sorted I am quite keen to carry on spending some money on the Passat so I'm looking for suggestions on worthwhile upgrades for the old girl. 1.8t 20v sport estate '98 model. What do you think?
  6. Ok the only thing at Wayside I would now like to ring is thier necks. After a phone call to Matt who told me that (according to his computer)VW had all the variants of MAF for my car in stock I rang Wayside and quoted the part No that Matt had supplied only to be told 'yes we have one of thoese in stock' dumb F##ks had been looking at the wrong part. Any how I am now £290 lighter but I have my car back. All that is left to say is a big thank you to Matt. Thank you and good night
  7. Have not rung Wayside yet, someone else was looking into it as well for me so I'm just giving them a chance to get back to me.

Rafi, Tried your link, only one of the dealers had one and they wanted £179 for it second hand. Thanks any how.
  9. Lodge, No thats the wrong type I think, it look's like it has a oval ended connection with 5 pins which is different to my car. The one I have has a four pin plug that has square ends. Thanks all the same.

Ok quick update on my Passat, tried to order the MAF yesterday only to find that there are none in the country and they are on back order in Germany, Bosch are quoting 12 weeks for delivery. So as you can imagine I am seriously pissed off, and now looking around the breakers.
  11. Hello everyone just thought I give you an update now that the house move is out of the way. OK as you can imagine it's been a pretty costly time for me so I finally bit the bullet and rang VW Wayside to order the MAF, inc VAT £267.14.Even though I knew how much it was going to be it still hurt, but here's the killer there's none in the country and Bosch are quoting 12 weeks lead time WTF!!!! Started ringing around (like you do) and it's the same all over, Great!! So I feel like VW have s hit on us with the price of the component and now they're watching it dry. Anyhow must dash I'm off down the breakers.

Sorry all, I've not logged on lately. Looming house move seems to be dominating everything at the moment. As it stands we're still struggling along, as soon as I have the car fixed you guys will be the first to know.
  13. On my car there is a large rubber grommet on top of the airbox with a cable running through it, this cable carries the four wires that connect to the MAF. Prise out the grommet and there's the MAF (I think) but I could not see any Phillips screws just two anti tamper fixings.

Rafi, My Passat will still redline in the first couple of gears but it take a long time getting there, I used to have trouble changeing up quick enough. To try and quantify it for you I also have a 1971 2002 BMW (normal carbed model)and that leaves the Passat standing. Also the car absolutely refuses to go above the ton, it's almost as if there is a restricter fitted. The car used to fly and now it's lost all of its sparkle.

Quite right, you should never bite the hand that feeds you even if they are robbing gits. I disconnected the MAF last night and took the car out, it made no noticable difference.....is this significant??
