1. SLine_Oli, I have had the same problem with my 170 TDI, but it may be about to be cured. If you look at my post about "random idle on 170TDI" this will detail todays visit to the dealers.
2. Just a quick post to keep folks up to date on where I am with this problem. I booked the car into Doncaster Audi today for a diagnostic on the random idle and jerky ride. I took the master tech out for a run up and down the M18 to find that the problem showed itself. The master tech recalled a problem he had with a demo car which displayed the same sympoms, and was cured by replacing the ...............turbo!!! The regeneration cycle of the DPF appears to be a red herring, as it cannot do it unless the car is cruising. It is more likely that there is a leak and the pressure from the turbo is venting to atmosphere. This causes the engine to increase the revs to compensate. Car is booked in, so I wil let folks know how it goes. Also, he did mention that supermarket fuel is not the best in the world, and with the 170TDi being rather highly tuned, it only wants quality fuel.
3. I am using Doncaster Audi. Been a customer of theirs since 2004. When I phone up, they know me by name!! If any other dealer told me what they said today I'd be " Yeah right.....can't be bothered!" So I do have faith. What is a DPF?? It strikes me as odd that a number of people have the problem, but Audi don't know anything about it.
4. I phoned the dealers today and spoke to the Workshop Manager. He isn't aware of any problems on the A3 like the one described, but he is aware of issues on the A6 EGR. What he has said is that if anyone else reports the problem, then he will send a tech report along with a diagnosis print out through to Audi and get them on it. Keep the comments coming. Vertigo1 - Let us know what they find out!!!
5. Didn't get around to phoning the dealer. Does sound like there may be an inherant problem. I'll call tomorrow and post with their answer. Phil
6. The noise/rumble happened again this morning, but by the time I got to work the noise had disappeared. It sounds like you are experiencing the same rumble I am getting. I'll speak to my dealer tomorrow, who is very good you don't get may people saying that) and post what they say.
7. Every once in a while my A3 TDi 170 idles when stationary upto 1000rpm. It normally sits around 800rpm. The engine is normally at temp or thereabouts when it happens. When I set off, the diesel rumble is very noticable upto around 2ooorpm, then quietens down again as I go through the rev range. If i slow down for a corner, the rumble returns. I had the bonnet open tonight and noticed something clicking, but it wasn't the fan. The dealers have plugged in the Ding Dang Do computer thing, but there is no fault codes. Any ideas.........anyone........please......
8. Oh, Think I'll give it a miss! Must say, as this is my first Audi, I don't think it will be the last. What a fantasic machine to drive!
9. I have just taken delivery of a new A3 2.0FSI and didn't spec the DIS. Can this be fitted by the dealer afterwards, or is it a factory fit???
