  1. I've just experienced a similar problem which currently appears to be the plug "caps" being old & current tracking down the outside. They are not cheap items, either, about £23 each. I was given to believe there was no difference between those used on a V6 & as they're only £13 each it was worth a shot. Trouble is, they're about 1" shorter. Never mind. The coils have tested okay so hopefull this will sort it out, I'll let you know.
  2. If track rod ends, ball joints etc are worn you can spend as much as you like on tracking but it will do no good. Mine wore out the outside of nearside tyre & I'd had it tracked checked & adjusted several times. New everything on the steering should sort that out, I hope.
  3. So if the sun is shining in the morning I shall check it out and see if you're there!
  4. Erm. That's Guildford Cathedral. You'd think I'd spot something that big and bright floating around but so far no see. And I'm not talking about the cathedral. I have heard from a man I know wot does transmissions that if the box senses a problem it will go into what he calls "limp mode" or 3rd gear to get you home, which might explain the lurchin and a lumping. Whatever it is, it needs attention. I shall keep on looking out for you, you'll be easier to spot in your electric blue rocket than I will in my dark green speeding machine.
  5. PS do you have a number for them?
  6. You're a dude. I shall be at the Windsor meet if the world is not still against me. I was at the last MK meet, and even though it's all boring motorway, it was fun and I shall try whether I get to Windsor or not. Anyway, if you could be so kind I shall be in your debt forever. At least until I can write you a cheque (or hand over the readies!) Ta muchly.
  7. I guess that against £128, £21 is cheap. Right now I'm trying to find the fuses. The other day I was trying to work out how the traffic report interrupt works on the Delta radio. Tomorrow, who knows? I guess I'll buy one soon but if you can help in the meantime that would be really great. Cheers.
  8. Well I've searched ebay and just missed a manual for a 99 A8, been to the dealer who quoted me £21+VAT, which is not a huge sum but feels like a p**s take, so I thought I'd ask around here. Anyone got a manual for a 96 A8 4.2QS with Delta hifi? If you have one for sale, that would be great, if you have one you could scan or lend for me to scan, that would be great too. Cheers.
  9. When I saw that rear view with the mega-zorst pipe poking out the back, I just had to have this car. I emailed acedave4 (who could doubt a man called Ace Dave the 4th?) and what a bit of luck- they guy who won the bid hadn't come up with the money yet! Wow! He said if I bid just £500 more he would let me have it instead so I jumped on a train and plane with the cash in my pocket and I've just got back. Lucky it didn't have brand spanking new wheels on it 'cause one fell off while I was trying to active the extra horse power on a bit of road that obviously wasn't long enough, you'd have thought a motorway would have enough tarmac to active more than about 42.5 HP, though. And he was right about how easy it will be to change the colour, because most of the paint had already fallen off before the wheel parted company with the rest of the car. This guy is smart. The police were quite interested too, as when he said it had past it's MOT I think he meant it was past it's MOT and it really really needed another one. Which may be a bit tricky as he was also right about needing the b**ls to drive a car that will chew up and spit out all other so called super cars on the road. When the wheel came off it chewed up some trucks too. I guess it would have been foolish to try to add that easily addable 100+ B.H.P. but I'd have liked to try to go insanely faster, in fact I would have settled for plain fast. Well, you live and learn and I've decided to stay with the plain old underpowered slow & safe 4.2QS and leave the 900 lb/ft 692 BHP monsters to those who can truly handle them. And if anyone sees me trying to haggle for a Ferrari F50 or Meclarine F1 just punch me in the face. I shall retire to bed bloodied but wiser.
  10. I've looked on the VAG-COM site but they don't give much help over what fits what. Will it work with a 96 A8? I can't see any adaptors which look even vaguely like the little socket thing in the dash, which is what I'm assuming the black rectangle full of holes somewhere above the radio is. And even if it does work, what can you do with it without an engineering degree?
  11. One of the things we love so much about used A8s, lots of car for little money, is not so great when it comes to selling but £7.5k is a real kick in the proverbials! I tested some later 8s at dealers & I'm sure you should be able to get over £10K for it. Trouble is bolts ons like wheels & exhausts don't add anything much to the value, just make it more attractive against something standard for the same sort of money. Plus dealers sell finance more than cars so it's always going to be a lot harder to find someone with 10K+ in their pocket when you're selling privately. Good luck though, I bet someone with good taste and means will come along soon.

    Good Deal?

[ QUOTE ] S8 for sale on the www.audi.co.uk website at dealership in Basingstoke. Asking £29K and has 24K on the clock. [/ QUOTE ] Hmm. anyone got 29 grand they can lend me for no interest and a very very long time?
  13. My experience has been with bikes and I favour Arai. They're light, comfortable and they work. The latter I can vouch for as I've dragged a few along the tarmack in my time. Thing about helmets is that, mostly, you don't need 'em but when you do, you really do need 'em.
  14. [ QUOTE ] If it's of use, I (for some reason) got give 2 copies of the S8 handbook with mine. I guess I could ebay it, but can't be arsed. If anyone wants it..... [/ QUOTE ] Ohh ohhh, oh, please, me ooh. I didn't get any manual at all with mine. Will you be at the Essex or Windsor meets? Beer could easily be involved in this one. Cheers.
  15. [ QUOTE ] Attached is a scan of the Speed Function thingy from the manual.... [/ QUOTE ] You're a gentleman, many thanks.
